For the WORD OF GOD is QUICK and POWERFUL and SHARPER than any two-edge sword, PIERCING even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow and is a DISCERNER of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb.4:12).
Today’s title is derived from the Yoruba speaking people of the South West of Nigeria. It is a phrase used to describe an all-purpose drug. The claim is that the drug can cure so many ailments. Well, whether that is true or not, I cannot establish that. But it goes to say that if man can claim there is a drug that can cure all ailment, then God’s word can do much more. It is the answer to all the challenges of life. So that if the godly husbandman can engage the word of God, he can successfully lead his wife and children to the glory and praise of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Now, looking at the Scripture in Hebrews chapter 4 and verse 12, you will discover the multi-effect of the word of God. The word of God is the most powerful seed you can plant into the life- sand of your wife and children. The word of God is able to bring the positive changes you want to see in your wife and children. Are you struggling with certain ungodly habits? Is your conduct instigating your wife to disrespect and betray you? Do you also have children who seem to continue to sway in the direction of immorality and indiscipline? God’s word is the answer and not malice, shouting or physical assault. Your wife and children cannot resist the force of the word of God.
But how do you use God’s word for your victory? Firstly, you must believe that the word of God is true. If you don’t believe the word of God, you cannot obey His instructions. Secondly, you must keep sowing the word of God into that situation of your sheep and sheepfold. Don’t give up on the word of God and the positive changes you pray to see in your wife and children. Thirdly, you must be hopeful in the word of God. Hope is what gives strength to your faith that your wife and children can be better. Fourthly, you must be watchful of the company you keep. There are people whose word could render your faith in the word of God impotent. The Scripture warns that bad company corrupts good manners.
Indeed, God’s word is the all-purpose medicine that will help you grow and develop into that husbandman that God and your wife and children and the world can proudly call, the good and godly man, husband and father. Engage it for your profitable living.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to sow Your words into the lives of my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, uproot every ungodly word I have planted in time past.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to obey Your words and let Your words yield godly fruits in my life and the lives of my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I believe in the word of God and I engage the word in truth in all that I do to my wife and children because that is what empowers me to become the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
