SEEDS OF THE HUSBAND’S LOVE (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1 Cor.13:4-8

More Scriptures: Ps. 12:6, 2 Pt.1:7, Jas.3:7

It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always helpful and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever. (1Cor.13:3-8) NLT

Yesterday, we laid the foundation for this teaching. We said that the person on the driver’s seat who is empowered to engage the gear of the family kingdom is YOU-the husbandman. Today let us consider the first gear you must engage toward your wife. It is the gear of patient”. In 1 Cor.13:4, the Scripture tells us that the first engagement of the love-seed God commands you to extend to your wife is patience. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader of your sheep, it is important for you to exercise patience toward your wife and children.

Now, what is patient? Patience is strong expectation founded on hope. There are positive attitudes that you expect from your wife and children. Sometimes these expectations may not manifest as quickly as you would want. But if you are hopefully patient, you will see the needed positive changes you desire in them. Most of the times, you may be discouraged as a leader about the attitude of your sheep. It is natural for you to be discouraged but it is supernatural for you to be patient. One of the tricks of the devil is to make you compare your wife and children with other women and children. The Bible warns against this when it says that he that compares himself with others is not wise. Comparison is the attitude of a foolish husband.

But how do I engage the gear of patience and hope as I relate with my wife and children? The first thing you must do is to allow the plan God has for your wife and children be your motivation. If you let the picture God has painted about your wife and children to dominate your heart, no setbacks or failures can ever destroy your hope. Secondly, you must pray for the help of the Holy Spirit. You must learn to ask the Lord in prayers for empowerment. It is the Lord who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure (Philp.2:13). And as you engage this gear, you will earn the respect of your wife and children. You also become the Jesus that they have read about. And lastly, you become a fulfilled shepherd and that will motivate you to do better to your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to engage my spirit, soul and body to love and be patient with my wife.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, save me from every force that wants to make me act foolishly and unlovingly to my wife.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy every root of agitation in my life and teach me how to always demonstrate Your love to my wife.

FAITH CONFESSION

I engage God’s word to develop my hope and patience towards my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
