Main Scriptures: 2Tim.2:14-15
More Scriptures: Dan.9:2, Jn.6:63, Philippians 3:10
I hate to work with a blunt knife when I want to cook. It is not only frustrating, it wastes time and requires so much energy. This is the angle I want to take you through in today’s teaching. I pray that the Person of the Holy Spirit, will open your eyes to see and your ears to hear so that you can grow and become the good and godly husbandman.
Let us start with this Bible passage.
KEEP REMINDING GOD’S PEOPLE OF THESE THINGS. Warn them before God against quarreling about works. It is of no value and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth (2Tim.14-15) NIV.
Note the phrase. “Keep reminding God’s people”. This means keep learning, keep searching, keep growing.
As the head of your family, it will be very difficult for you to retain your usefulness in your family fold without sharpening your leadership skill through the word of God. So, the Scriptures commands to, Study to show thyself approved as a workman who is not ashamed but rightly dividing the word of truth (2Tim.2:15). Personally, I keep going back to my Bible and my notes to remind myself of my role as the head of the family. My desire is to be a better man, husband and father. Just recently, I read a Christian material where the pastor gave four levels of prayers we ought to pray for our children. That helped my understanding of how to pray for my children. So, reminding yourself is like sharpening your knife.
But how do I sharpen my leadership skill for a profitably work as the good and godly man, husband and father? Firstly, you must accept that the largest room is the room for improvement. This means that you must accept and be willing to give yourself to continuous learning. Apostle Paul said, “that I may know Him”. You must daily crave to want to know more about Jesus Christ and what He will do if He were physically here on earth in your position. You must never be comfortable with where you are and with the knowledge that you have. If you do, you will become like the object that is not sharpened and is put to work. Secondly, you sharpen your leadership skill by giving attention to reading your Bible as a way of life. The Bible tells us the “word of God is spirit and truth (Jn.6:63)” and by “the word of God, the world was framed (Heb.11:3)”. Finally, buy and read Christian motivating and inspiring books. Daniel said, “I Daniel understood by books (Dan.9:2). If you can invest as little as 25% of what you spend on recharging your phones in seeking knowledge, you would have experienced tremendous transformation as the good and godly husbandman.
Keep sharpening your leadership skill and watch how you would have recreated a glorious destiny for your life, wife and children.
