The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever that we may follow all the words of this law (Deut.29:29 (NIV).
Do you really want to know what it takes to become the strong shepherd? I once heard someone say that “the secret of great men is in their stories”. I want to share with you four secrets that will make you an outstanding shepherd both to yourself and to your wife and children and in the marketplace of life. These secret codes are necessary because of the enormous responsibilities that come with being so important because of the enormous demands that accompany the position of the good and godly shepherd. If you are willing and ready to act on these codes, then you are set for a new level of peace, dominion and victories.
Now what are these secret codes? The first is that you must be and live healthy. It has been said that health is wealth. Without health, you cannot be strong enough to execute God’s demands of your office as the husbandman. You need to be healthy in your mind and in your body. You need to be strong physically. And you do this by eating right and making time to rest. Even God, who made you the head of your family rested. This is what the Scripture says about it. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made (Gen.2:1-2). It is true that you are pursuing God’s plan for your life and family but remember that if you do not rest your body, it will collapse. Do not wait for time; make out time. Also mind what you eat. There are some foods that you eat that seem to enhance your status but are poisons to your body. There are certain foods you will never find me eating, no matter how hungry I may be. God has helped me to bring my appetite under control.
The second secret code is that you must be a passionate reader. One of my mentors in the faith, Bishop David Oyedepo once remarked that there is no mountain anywhere, it is man’s ignorance that is his mountain. Indeed, it is true. I have experienced this truth firsthand. So, if you want to overcome the challenges in your leadership function, you must be full of the knowledge of Jesus Christ and what He represents as the godly husbandman. You must understand that there is the God’s way to treat your wife and children and there is also the world’s way. It takes the knowledge from the Word of God to handle your wife and children His way. And that is what guarantees your excellence as the good and godly shepherd.
