Main Scriptures: Micah 6:7-8
More Scriptures: 1Cor.13:3, 1Cor.2:16, 2Cor.5:17
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:7-8)
From the Scripture in Micah chapter 6 and verses 7 and 8, there are three demands or action that God defines as good. And that is what I want us to examine today as heads of our families. O man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you…(Micah 6:8). This is what it implies. As the good and godly husbandman, there are attitudes that God expects you to demonstrate as you lead your wife and children. This is because the sum of your leadership is what you do to your wife and children. So, what is God requiring you to do as the good and godly shepherd? The part b of Micah 6:8 gives the answer. To do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly (Mic.6:8).
Are you a just husbandman? Are you fair in the assessment of your wife and children? Do you act and correct your sheep to mock them, or you want them to be good and godly? Do you defend your wife from the abuses and attacks of your family members because she has not been able to conceive or has health challenges? Do you stand to defend your wife against unfair treatment from your parents or any relatives or you just look the other way? You must understand that you owe your wife and children the responsibility of protecting them. As the good and godly shepherd, you must not expose your sheep to the assaults of satan, sin and the world.
Furthermore, do you show mercy to your wife and children when they offend you? Do you do good to your sheep despite their obvious weaknesses? Your wife and children have their shortcomings. They are not perfect people just the same way you are not perfect. So, if God shows you mercy, then you are obligated to extend mercy to your wife and children. Finally, are you humble? Do you easily acknowledge and accept your mistakes? How quickly are you willing to serve the interest of your wife and children and the others over and above yours?
But how do I become just, merciful and humble as the good and godly husbandman? The first step is for you to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, by accepting Him as your Lord and personal saviour (2Cor.5:17). The second step is for you to ask the Person of the Holy Spirit to create in you a right spirit, which will make you have the mind of Christ (1Cor.2:16). Thirdly, you must pray for the outpouring of the spirit of Christ.
You must allow your life and conduct be reflective of justice, mercy and humility.
