FOCUS ON GOD AND NOT THE CHALLENGE

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Genesis 13:13-15

More Scriptures: Job 28:10, Jer.1:11, 2 Cor.2:10

As the godly husbandman, does it seem that you are overwhelmed with the demands of your office as the head of the family? Are you beginning to lose steam to lead your wife and children? Are you confused about what next to do to overcome that challenge? The event in Genesis chapter 13 should give you confidence and hope that all will be well with you.

The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you. (Gen.13: 14-17)

Abraham had a problem with Lot. Lot took the greener places up to Jordan and left Abraham with nothing significant, even though it was Abraham that made him rich. But amid this challenge, God commanded Abraham to look up. As the head of the family, you will always come face to face with unpleasant issues and challenges with your wife, your children and other areas of your life. Sometimes, these things happen to you not because you did anything wrong. The Holy Spirit is saying to you today to shift your focus from the challenges to God. The person who hurt Abraham was not an outsider. It was someone very close to him- his nephew. Your wife may have reciprocated your good will with bad will. God is saying look up. Look beyond her. That was the attitude that husband Abraham displayed to Lot. I will look up to the hills from whence my help come. For my help cometh from the Lord who made the heaven and the earth (Ps.121:1-2).

But what does it mean to look up? It means to forgive and forget. It means to see God at the center of the challenge. As the good and godly husbandman, you must learn to forgive your wife and children and not dwell on their faults. When you look up, you don’t see the errors of your wife and children, rather you see the goodness of God. And once your attention shifts from the mistakes of your wife and children to God, He reveals to you His power and greatness. His life begins to make meaning to you and that will help you to lovingly relate with your wife and children in the fear of God. The reason why you find it hard to extend benevolence and kindness to your wife and children is because you are busy looking at the issues and those who commit the offence. God is saying to you, look up. Would you rather look up or down? Make a wise choice today.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, please, help me to focus on You and not on the inadequacies of my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me strength to hold onto You and to Your promises.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not to be discouraged as I lead my wife and children.

FATHER CONFESSION

I have placed my focus on God and His word rather than my challenges because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
