Main Scriptures: Jos.24:14-15
More Scriptures: Matt.5:13, Ps.19:14, Rom.12:1
Have you ever wondered what God’s eternal mandate is for you as the good and godly husbandman? If you do not know, it is okay because today’s Scripture provides the answer.
Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the otherside of the flood and in Egypt, and serve ye the Lord. And if it seen evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye shall serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell, but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods (Jos.24:14-15)
I want you to note the following. Firstly, Joshua was ordained by God to lead the people just as God has placed you as the head and leader over your wife and children. Secondly, Joshua had his family, the same way you have your family which comprises your wife and children. Thirdly, Joshua led the team from the front. Fourthly, Joshua was godly. Now, Joshua understood his divine mandate, which was to lead his people to serve God. He knew that he had the ultimate responsibility to provide good and godly leadership first to his family and to the people of Israel. And so, he asked them a very simple question. Whose god will you serve? Is it the god of the Amorites or the God of Israel? But he took a position. He said, “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Jos.24:15b).
As the head of the family and the spiritual leader in your home, your ultimate mandate is to live and lead your wife and children to serve God. God wants you to teach, guide, motivate and inspire your wife and children to love the Lord with all their hearts, minds, souls and bodies. God wants you to build good and godly environment that will help your wife and children grow in the fear and admonition of the Lord Jesus.
But, you can only achieve this when serving God and His interests starts with you. As the godly husbandman, you must live a good and godly life in words, conduct and in your thoughts. The days of do what I say and not what I do is over. This is why the Scripture has this to say about your life and conduct. You are the salt of the earth………..you are the light of the world…….Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matt.5:13,14,16). You must be the example of the God that you want your wife and children to serve. You must reflect the nature and virtues of Christ. When you live and walk in the light of this truth, you can be bold to declare to your world and to your sheep that, as for me and my house we shall serve the Lord.
