Main Scriptures: Matt.11:28-30
More Scriptures: Ps.23:1, 1Tim.5:8, Lk.22:35
Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matt.11:28-20)
You can also learn from Jesus Christ’s protection of His sheep. In one of those trips He made with His disciples on sea, they encountered storm. The storm threatened to destroy both the boat and everyone in it. Jesus Christ was inside the boat. When the disciples could not bear the threat of the storm they cried out to Jesus for help. Jesus rose up and spoke to the wind, “peace be still…..(Mk.4:39)”. And there was a great calm.
How much calmness have you brought to the lives of your wife and children when they faced the storms and challenges of life? Do your wife and children see you as their protector? Can they run to you for help when they are being threatened by satan, sin and world and be rest assured of calmness? Remember that you are the gatekeeper of your sheepfold. Your presence in the lives of your wife and children is to bring peace and quietness in those areas of their lives where they are struggling or facing one form of challenge or the other.
What else can you learn from Jesus Christ? You can learn provision. I have come to discover that one of the greatest heritages you have as the head of the family is to provide for your household-your wife and children-food, shelter and clothing and so much more. If any husbandman in unable to perform this covenant task, he looses relevance over time in his sheepfold. Jesus had several crusades and had people who followed Him from one crusade to another. A time came and it was near evening and the people were hungry. He asked His disciples where they could get food to buy to feed the people. And because, it was late, He had to make do with five loaves of bread and two fishes. He lifted up the meal and blessed it and gave it to the people. They ate and were filled and had 12 baskets of leftovers of bread and fish. He provided what they will eat. Do you provide what your wife and children will eat? Are you the channel through which God supplies the needs of your wife, children and sheepfold? Or are you among those categories of husbandmen who have taken the back seat in providing for their families? Are you a leech or a provider? The Scripture says this of Jesus Christ when He sent His disciples on assignment “lackest thou anything……..”. You are the shepherd in your sheepfold and your wife and children are your sheep. And every good shepherd owes the sheep the singular honour and responsibility to feed his sheep. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…..(Ps.23:1).
