BEFORE YOU ACT, THINK ON THESE THINGS.

Spread the love

Scripture: Philippians 4:8

More scriptures: Is.53:11, Jer.9:23-24, 1Cor.2:2

Today’s teaching, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, is to help the husbandman exercise discretion and control over his emotion and build him to become the matured good and godly shepherd to his wife and children (Rom.12:2-3).

It is often said that we are what we think. Your thought has a lot to do with your actions. This is why as the good and godly shepherd and the head of your family, you must be very careful of the thoughts of your heart. Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way (Pro.23:19). You must understand that you will always go in the way of the thoughts of your heart, hence you must guard your heart with all diligence because out of it are the issues of life. The Holy Ghost is asking a husbandman reading this devotional today, “what are you thinking and where lies your thought? Where do you focus your thought?”

This is because as the head of the family, you determine a lot that happens in your home; your wife is looking up to you for direction and your children are looking up to you for inspiration. This is why you cannot afford to think wrong, because thoughts are seeds. They either bring positive fruits or negative fruits.

So, before you act, think on these. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are TRUE, whatsoever things are HONEST, whatsoever things are JUST, whatsoever things are PURE, whatsoever things are LOVELY, whatsoever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be any VIRTUE, and if there by any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS (Philippians 4:8).

The Bible says that your thought must dwell on what is honest, pure, lovely, true, just and good report. In everything that you do towards your wife and children and those around, you must be guided by these litmus tests. Are your thoughts pure? Are they honest? Is it of good report? If they do not agree with these tests, don’t act on them. Have your thoughts towards your wife and children, and those around you, being tested on the virtues in Philp.4:8? It may be that you are thinking of taking revenge against your wife or child (ren) because they have offended you or hurt you. It could be that you want to start an extra marital affair with that woman who is not your wife. It may be that you are thinking of stealing from your office or changing figures. God is saying, if your thoughts do not agree with the basis in Phil.4:8, don’t go further, don’t act on it.

You are what you think. God wants you to think right. He wants your thoughts to align with His word. He wants your action, conduct and response to your wife and children to be according to His words. And that begins with your thought. Please, think right and act right and the peace of God will be with you (Phil.4:9)

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to think on godly virtues.

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, align my heart to the riches of Your word.

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, let my life reflect Your character to all in truth and in spirit.

FAITH CONFESSION

I will think on God’s word and allow the word of God to influence my action, response and conduct to my wife, children and the market place of life because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
