Let’s begin by establishing some biblical truths about the word of God. The first is that the Bible contains instructions, precepts, guidance, and commandments. The second is that God’s word is for our admonition and correction. All of these is to make us conform to the very image and likeness of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Now, one of the commandments of God for every husbandman is the commandment of LOVE. It is called the COMMANDED LOVE. To love your wife is not an advice. It is not a suggestion. It is not an admonition. It is not what you wish to do but what you are commanded to do. God commands you to love your wife as Christ has loved the Church. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church and gave himself for it. So ought men to love their wives. Nevertheless, let everyone in particular so love his wife even as himself (Eph.5:25, 28, 33).
You are to love your wife as Jesus Christ loves the church. The issue of love rests squarely with you, the husband. Your wife has become your responsibility and must therefore be adored, respected, honoured and cared for. As the leader of the home, you must show God-kind of love to your wife. When you throw love at her she responds by giving you respect, reverence and honour. The truth is that your wife will always respond to the measure of love that she receives from you.
But why should I love my wife? It is because God commands you to do so and also because she is a joint heir with you of the grace of God upon your life (Gen.2:24-25, 1Pet.3:7). So, if you love your wife, you indirectly love yourself, and if you hurt her, you hurt yourself.
God has not called you to hate your wife neither did He call you call you to be an instrument of bitterness in your home. Your appointment as the head of the family is to sow love into the lives of every member of your sheepfold. You can love your wife again. You can start sowing the seed of love into her life today. It is not too late. And as you sow love to your wife as commanded by God, you will reap respect and honour from your wife.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to love my wife as You have commanded.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, shed abroad Your love in my heart and help me manifest it truthfully and lavishly.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the force of unforgiveness, bitterness and hatred.
FAITH CONFESSION
I sow the God-kind of love to my wife willingly and joyfully because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
