EXERCISING YOUR PRIESTLY AUTHORITY

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Judges 13:6-8

More Scriptures: 1Cor.14:14, Matt.1:20, Lk.1:35

Let me begin by stating this biblical truth for the husbandman. The husbandman is an ordained priest and has been empowered to exercise all the authourity and power of a priest. And that is what we will be learning today in our main text.

The event in Judges Chapter 13 is the story of the husbandman, who exercised his priestly office. His name is Manoah and also the father of Samson. He and his wife had no child. And this matter became a problem in the family, to the extent that his family was mocked. Someday, his family had an angelic visitation. He was not around when the angel visited. But when his wife told him, he did something remarkable, which is what you are empowered to do as the good and godly priest. He interceded on behalf of the family.

In verse 8 of Jdgs.13, the Scriptures say then Manoah entreated the Lord and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born (Jdgs.13:8).

As the head of the family, you hold the key to the success or failure of your family- your wife and children. Your headship has put you in a position where you are ordained to provide spiritual guide and charting a glorious destiny for your wife and children. There are things that your wife and child may have told you. There are some encounters that they may have explained to you. Is it a dream they have shared with you? Could it be an expectation that they may have shared with you concerning their academics, relationships, business, spirituality, e.t.c.? Whatever they may have told you, it is important that you do what the husbandman in our main text did-he made spiritual enquires from God. The Bible says, Manoah entreated the Lord.

A lot of the times as heads of our families, we have neglected the most important responsibility that we have towards our flock, which is reconfirming and interceding for them. And because the husbandman has handled this fundamental aspect of his roles with so much carelessness, our children and wives have continued to go around in circles without making any appreciable advancement, spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. In the story of Joseph and Mary in Matthew chapter 1, the husbandman, Joseph, upon discovering that his wife was pregnant, inquired of the Lord. In verse 20 of Matt.1, the Scriptures say but while he thought on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost (Matt.1:20). Just imagine if he did not make further enquiries from the Lord, he may have driven the wife out of the home and lose out in the chance of being part of the good testimony, which the world is celebrating up till now.

Do not leave your wife and children without a higher spiritual input, which must come from you. Intercede for them. You are there as the head to lead them in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to uphold my wife and children in deep intercession.

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, strengthen my prayer altar.

•           Father, in the Name of Jesus, hear me when I call and show me deep things about the way to go for my life, wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I intercede tirelessly for my wife and children, bringing the perfect will of God to pass in their lives because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
