I AM THE GODLY FATHER (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.2:14-25

More Scriptures: Col. 3:21, Ps.22:4, Jer.11:4

In the next few days, we shall be exploring through the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, your third personality of the husbandman-fatherhood. I trust God that as you give attention to this teaching, your life will never remain the same again in Jesus name. Amen.

Let’s start by laying the foundation upon which the husbandman is built. The husbandman operates on three levels, the same way God operates as three in one personality-God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. As the husbandman, he operates as a MAN, HUSBAND AND FATHER. In Gen.1:26-28, God created the man in His image and likeness. And because the image of God is triune, He translated this same man into a husband in Gen.2:14-25. And because God is a covenant keeper, He made him a father in Gen.4:1, even though man betrayed Him in Genesis chapter 3.

From these Scriptural foundations, you can clearly see that you are a man, a husband and a father. So, in today’s devotional, I want to share with you your personality as the father. But who is a father and what makes him a good and godly father?

A father is an IDENTITY, a MALE FIGURE who PROVIDES PROTECTION, STRUCTURE, MORAL VALUES, BLUEPRINT, VISION and PURPOSE for the FAMILY.

This means that anyone can be a father but it takes a real man to be good and godly father. The real father has a godly identity through his good and godly conduct and he makes all the difference in the child’s life. He is a pillar of strength, support, and discipline. His work is endless and oftentimes thankless. That you have children is not what gives values to your fatherhood. Your true worth is determined by how much work you are willing to engage in as demanded by God in His word in the direction of your children. Ephesians chapter 6 and verse 4 instructs us on how we, fathers can be relevant to our children and become the good and godly identity in their lives. Fathers nurture thy children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). Your child(ren) are God’s seen in your care, you are the primary and principal agent of nurturing them. So how do I nurture my child?

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me to discover my role as the good and godly father to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me Your word and give me an understanding heart as I study Your word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to obey all Your commandments as they concern my role as a father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take the lead in nurturing and admonishing my children as their father and as commanded by God because that is what defines my roles as the good and godly father in my sheepfold in Jesus name. Amen.
