HUSBANDMAN, A CALL TO GREATER RESPONSIBILTIES

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ecc.5:7

More Scriptures: Pro.10:4, 1Tim.5:8, Eph.6:4

Talk is cheap, like day dreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead (Pro.5:7)

Do you realize that it requires diligence and commitment for you to function maximally as the good and godly man, husband and father? The truth is that being a good shepherd to your wife and children is hard work. It is not cheap talk. It is a call to assuming greater responsibility. It is a call to greater commitments. It is a call to a life of sacrifice and inconvenience. Infact, there is no future for a lazy husbandman. This is why today’s Scripture is very important for you to meditate on. For you to be called the head of the family, it requires much more than the balls between your legs or the size of your body or the fluency of your language. It is a call unto higher life in Jesus Christ.

Now, these are some of the covenant demands of your office and I want you to examine yourself if you are walking in them. Husbands love your wife as Christ has loved the Church and gave Himself (Eph.5:25). It is not cheap talk for the husbandman to love his wife as captured in 1Cor.13:4-8. Fathers nurture thy children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). It takes the grace of God for any husbandman to balance his busy schedule with nurturing his children in the way and admonition of the Lord-helping them to love the Lord with the whole of their heart, might and strength. You require enormous courage just like Joshua in Jos.24:15. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Jos.24:15). Look at this commitment again. The man who can provide for his household is worse than an unbeliever (1Tim.5:8). It is your singular responsibility to provide for your family and not your wife, parents or relations. You have to engage your minds and hands and your convenience to earn a living and serve your wife and children with the fruits. Your wife is not the shepherd of the family fold. Stand up to your covenant responsibilities.

So, the question is, have you lived up to the demands above? Can you say you are the provider in your family fold? Can you sincerely confirm that you are indeed a true shepherd to your sheep? Please answer!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live up to the demands of my office as the good and godly husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a worthy example of a good and godly husbandman to my wife and children and other husbands.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, prosper my headship and make me a successful husbandman.

FAITH CONFESSION

I work diligently to fulfill the demands of my headship to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.

  1. John R. John R.

Not a big fan of today’s devotional. The use of the term “balls” really cheapened the devotional. Our took it to a worldly level. Also the word “not” was left out of 1 Timothy 5:8 which charged the entire verse.

God bless you John and thank you for bringing to our attention the omission of the word Not. It is not intentional but a typo error. We will continue to ensure that we cross check prior to publishing.
