Bible Texts: Jas.4:5-6, 1Tim.3:6, Job 41:15, Pro.11:2
Recently, I was invited to speak at a marriage seminar. And the topic I was to speak on was pride as a weed in our marriages. And I want to share with you, my fellow husbands some truths. No proud husband ever survives the long haul of a marriage relationship. Very important to note, is that pride is the nature of the devil. Pride brought him down from his exalted position. As the head of your family and the shepherd over your flock, you must not allow pride to gain space in your heart. You must recognize that you need the abundant grace of God to execute your functions as the head of your family. There is so much that God expects from you. The tasks are enormous and you will always need the help of God to overcome the challenges that would come your way.
In Jas.4, the Scripture has this to say about pride. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy. But he (God) giveth more grace, wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud but giveth grace unto the humble (Jas.4:5-6). Don’t think that because you are the head of your family and the shepherd of your flock you are above correction or advice either from your wife, children or others around you. If you don’t deal with pride, it can destroy your relationship with your wife and children, and if it is allowed to degenerate, it could lead to a broken family.
You must have the capacity to apologize sincerely and truthfully to your flock when you are wrong or when your attention is brought to a wrong action that you have taken. You must learn to appreciate your flock when they have served you or your interest whether in small or big ways. You must learn to apologize to your heavenly Father when you have displeased Him and when the Holy Spirit convicts you.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the pride of life and deceitfulness of satan.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, pour upon my life the spirit of grace and humility and let me walk in the path of righteousness.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me humble before Your eyes all the days of my life.
FAITH CONFESSION
I bring into captivity pride and its affiliations by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, and put on the garment of humility because that is the gateway to reigning as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
