Bible Texts: 2Tim.2:3-4, Mk.9:29, Acts 3:6, Lk.10:19
If you are very familiar with how the educational system runs in some places, you will observe that in every class there is a class captain. His or her job is to oversee the class and reports directly to the class teacher. So in the army of students or pupils, there is a class captain. Now imagine for a moment your home as a classroom with students, who in this case includes you, your wife and children. Who do you think is the class captain? Is it your wife? Certainly not! Is it your child or children? Far from it! Is it you? Absolutely, yes!
But what does this position confer on you? It places on you AUTHORITY AND TRAINING. As the captain of your family, you are to prepare your wife and children for battle. The Scripture says that your children shall stand at the gates of the enemies. As the head of your family and the prophet over your wife and children, you have the authority to train your wife and children to be battle ready in the battle field of life-teaching and engaging them to become good soldiers. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this world (2 Tim.2:3-4). But for you to train your wife and children to become overcomers, you have to develop your own spiritual capacity through conscious engagement of your heart to the study of the word of God. The more of the word of God you have inside of you by revelation, the more empowered you act like a true captain.
This is why you must not just have head knowledge of the word, you must have revelation knowledge. You must also give yourself to a fasted life-praying and fasting as a lifestyle. As the head of your family, you must understand that prayer and fasting are one of the secrets of enforcing the will of God on the earth. For this kind goeth not forth except by prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29). And as you engage in these spiritual demands, your authority level will increase, to the extent that you have testimonies to share with your wife and children, thereby empowering them to triumph over the challenges of life. You cannot give what you don’t have (Acts 3:6). Work to develop yourself and you will become the training manuals for your sheep.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from spiritual complacency.
Father, in the Name of Jesus, build me up in Your word and act.
Father, in the Name of Jesus, train me and help me to train my wife and children for a
victorious life.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am the captain of my family and I train my wife and children because I am committed to becoming a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
