LEADERSHIP IS HARDWORK

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 2Tim.2:4-6, 1Tim.5:8, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:10, Heb.11:2, Ps.23:1

The husbandman that works (laboureth) shall be the first partaker of the fruits (2Tim.2:6).

Let us begin today’s teaching by establishing some truth about godly leadership, which is your position as the husbandman in your sheepfold. The first is that leadership is hardwork. The second is that leaders are the first beneficiary of good results.

This understanding will help you appreciate your role as the head of your family and embolden you to take up responsibilities as the good and godly man, husband and father. And that is what the word of God is teaching you and I in 2nd Timothy chapter 2 and verse 6. As the leader over your wife and children, you must acknowledge that God has made you caretaker over His treasures-your wife and children. God demands that you work with the whole of your might for the overall success of your sheep-spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, financially and in every aspect of their lives. You owe them the honour of producing good fruits. So when you are called the good and godly husbandman, it means you are called unto good works. And that is what the Person of the Holy Spirit wants to remind you and I today.

In 2Tim.2:6, the Bible says that, the husbandman that laboureth…. Being the good and godly husbandman is a call to hardwork. It is a call to greater responsibilities. And it will require from you lots of sacrifices, commitments, determination and discipline. This means your investment of prayers, faith, love, giving, time, knowledge, skills, money and understanding. So, for you to become a responsible and godly husbandman, you must come to terms with the position of God for you as the head.

Firstly, you must recognize that God called you to lead your wife and children and not the other way. This places on you the responsibility to provide spiritual nourishments for your wife and children, including what they will eat, drink, wear and live. You must never claim to be the good and godly husbandman if you cannot provide for your family. Infact, it nullifies your faith and the truth of Scriptures (1Tim.5:7-8). It is time to wake up and take up the challenge of all that the office of the husbandman demands.

Secondly, you must engage the power of the Spirit of God to deal with fleshly tendencies such as sin, immorality, indiscipline, selfishness, laziness and excuses. After the Apostles received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in Acts chapter 2, they began to declare boldly the counsel and will of God to everyone. The Person of the Holy Spirit empowers for performance.

Thirdly, you must never be satisfied with the present. In Amos 6:1, the word of God says, woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations to whom the house of Israel come. It is a dangerous thing to think you have arrived without any new goals, visions and purposes in view. For the Bible tells us that the path of the just man is like a shining light that shines brighter unto a perfect day (Pro.4:18).

And as you diligently work to become a responsible labourer and leader in your family kingdom, God, your wife, children and men will honour you and you will become an example others want to follow.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to provide godly leadership to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to work diligently for the good of my office and sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, build me up in honour and dignity amongst men.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a worthy labourer of good works for the good of my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
