TEACH AND BECOME WHAT YOU TEACH

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Lk.4:43-44, Matt.5:14-16, Lk.4:15, Mk.1:39, Acts 1:1-2, Heb.12:3, Roms.12:21, 1Tim.3:1-4

And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him that he should not depart from them. And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also. For therefore am I sent and he preached in the synagogues of Galilee (Lk.4:43-44).

Consider the last statement that Jesus Christ made in our main Scripture today. He said, “therefore am I sent, and he preached (taught)”. One of the responsibilities that God expects from you as the head of your wife and children, is to teach them and be the good and godly example. This means you have the responsibility to teach and reflect what you teach to your sheep, sheepfold and the world. The Bible says of you, ye are the salt of the earth, a city set on a hill that cannot be hid.

As the head of your family, you must not only teach your wife and children the word of God, you must also reflect what the word of God says as the good and godly man, husband and father both in conduct, action and thoughts. And the first place to become what you teach is in your home and to your wife and children. Jesus Christ, the Perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, did not only teach His disciples, He was also an example to them. He taught them and also helped them to make wise decisions.

But how do I become an effective teacher and example to my wife and children? The first action step is for you to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by accepting Him as your Lord and Personal saviour. The Scriptures say that “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, behold old things have passed away, all things have become new (2Cor.5:17)” You need Jesus Christ to renew your life for good and godliness. He is the One who can help you, through the Person of the Holy Spirit, to be like Him to your wife and children. The Bible speaks of why you and I need Jesus Christ to accomplish the great tasks of the godly husbandman. In John gospel chapter 15, the word of God says, without me, you can do nothing (Jn.15:1-5).

Secondly, you must invest your time and give attention to the study of and meditation on the word of God. You must hide the word of God in your heart. You must think on the word. This is so important because it is the word of God that provides you with the truth, the way and the life you ought to teach your wife and children. Finally, you must act on the word and submit to the teaching of the Persons of the Holy Spirit (Jn.14:26, Jas.1:22-25).

You must keep looking unto Jesus Christ (Heb.12:1-3). He is your perfect example. Teach your wife and children the word of God and make your life an example for them to emulate.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to teach Your word to my wife and children and make me a living example to them.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to become a positive influence on my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every root of deceitfulness, unhealthy habits and pretenses.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give my life as a seed unto God so that I can teach His WORD to and be the example to my wife and children as the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
