Bible Texts: Gen.14:21-24, Philip.4:8, Gen.12:2, Micah 3:8, Rom.12:1-2, Lk.10:19, Matt.23:23, 3Jn.:2, Jas.3:2, 2Thess.3:10, 1Tim.5:8
Again and again, it has been proven that no husbandman can make the best of his life as the good and godly man, husband and father if he doesn’t find himself in Jesus Christ. Many husbandmen do not even know who they are from the word of God and this account for the less than average results you get from them in the discharge of their duties to their sheep. Some have succeeded as godly men but failed as fathers. Others have succeeded as godly fathers but have failed as husbands. While others have succeeded as godly husbands, but they have failed as fathers. Therefore, in the next few days, we shall be exploring the Bible to discover our real identity as husbandmen.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, that at the end of this teaching series, you and I would have improved on our covenant duties as good and godly men, husbands and fathers, bringing glory to Jesus Christ our Lord and honour to our sheep. Amen.
Now what is your first identity? Your first identity is honour. But what is honour? It is the quality of knowing and doing what is morally and biblically right. When your wife and children offend you, do you put your emotions under control or you go to the drinking bar or the brothel or say abusive words to them as the best way to contain your anger (Jas.3:2)? Would you work with your hands and provide for the shelter, food and educational needs of your wife and children (1Tim.5:8, 2Thess.3:10)? Would you hold onto your integrity as a Christian husbandman at the risk of losing your job, that contract or position? Would you exchange your peace of mind for an offer of unforgiveness and bitterness against your wife and children? If your answers to these questions will be to do God’s will as the husbandman, then you have chosen the path of honour and working your ways up the ladder of becoming the good and godly husbandman.
As the head of the family, you must understand that God wants you to live an honourable life. God wants to be proud of you. He wants your wife and children to be proud of you, too. That challenge you are having with your wife and children and at your place of work or business is a test. Do not let it discolour your honour.
Now the Lord said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house unto a land I will show. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great, and thou shall be a blessing (Gen.12:1-2).
And in chapter 14:21-24, he was tested. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth. That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet and that I will not take anything that is thine…..So, let me ask you this question. As the godly husbandman, where do you stand in your relationship with God, your wife, your children and the marketplaces of life?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live a honourable life as the godly man, husband and father.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every trap of iniquity, compromise and fear.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me reflect the nature of Jesus Christ to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have chosen to walk the path of honour with God and my life and conduct shall please God, my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
