GOD GAVE HIS BEST, GIVE YOUR BEST

Bible Texts: Jn.3:16, Gen.22:16, Gen.1:28, Rev.5:10, 1Pet.2:9, 1Pet.5:8-9, 1Thess.5:17

For God so loved the world that He gave His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON……..(Jn.3:16).

God so loved humanity, notwithstanding the evils, betrayals and disappointments that He gave His best-HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, JESUS CHRIST. That is the same attitude that God wants you to have towards your wife and children. God wants you to give your best to them, irrespective of their weaknesses, failures and inadequacies.

A lot of times as husbandmen, we hardly put our best conduct to those we are leading and also to those around us. As the leading light in the lives of your wife and children, you must deliberately guide your behavior. You must understand that your conduct will always speak louder than your speech. Your life must show commitment, determination and passion to want to be the best leader, mentor and guide to your wife and children. The glory of your headship is more than just impregnating your wife and becoming a father. It is more than just having your children or wife bear your name. It is about you becoming like Jesus Christ to your wife and children in your thought, conduct and speech.

But how do I put my best forward for my wife and children? The first thing you must do is to have a positive mentality about who you are in Christ. In Gen.1:26-28, the word of God says of you, let us make man in our own image and likeness and let him have dominion over all…..You have the mind of Christ and you have the capacity to be like Him.Also, in Rev.5:10-12, the Scripture says that God has made you a king and a priest unto Himself that you may reign in life. Apostle Peter said, you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and a peculiar people….(1Pet.2:9). Until you can change the way you think, you cannot give your best of God to your wife and children.

Secondly, you must resist the devil steadfastly in prayers. Putting your best forward is and will always be the will of God for you but there are many adversaries. Satan doesn’t want you to give your best to your wife and children (1Pet.5:8). He worked so hard against Eli, the Priest, that he did not give his best to his family (1Sam.3:12-13). He also worked against Adam, the first husband in Gen.3:5-8. It is for this reason the word of God admonishes us to resist the devil steadfastly in faith (1Pet.5:9, 1Thess.5:17).

The third step you must take is to daily ask the Lord to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you (Ps.51:10).

God has sent you to your wife and children so that you can demonstrate the best of His character to them. Make it count, positively in their lives and let it bring glory and praise of Jesus Christ.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to give the best of my life to my wife and children and the world.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, work through me to deliver Your best to my wife and children.
  • Father in the Name of Jesus, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit in me.

FAITH CONFESSION

I offer the best of God in me to my wife, children and the world around me because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
