KEEP A COOL HEAD, STAY ALERT!

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Peter 5:8-9, Jn.10:10, Ezk.34:15, Zech.13:7, Mk.6:34, Matt.5:14-16, Gen.1:26-28

Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up (1 Pet.5:8) MSG

Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil as a roaring lion, walking about, seeking whom he may devour (1Pet.5:8) KJV

Today’s teaching topic is derived from the Bible passage in 1st Peter chapter 5 and verses 8 and 9. It is the Message translation. It is direct and straightforward. As the good and godly shepherd, you must be vigilant and keep watch over your life and the lives of your wife, children and home.

Your life as the head of your family is and will continue to be a threat to your enemy, satan. The devil is the one who is looking for ways to make you slip into drunkenness, adultery, bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, malice, and all forms of spiritual complacency and immorality. It is not because you are poor neither rich that you are living a life of unrighteousness. The attitude of your wife or your children is not also the reason for your fall into adultery and unwholesome living that has not brought glory to God (Matt.5:14-16).

You must understand that when you fall, satan is happy. He is even happier when your fall leads to the scattering of your wife, children and sheepfold. Jesus speaking said, they are like sheep without shepherd (Mk.6:34). The word of God also says that, when you strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter (Zech.13:7).Satan is your enemy and the assignment he wants to fulfill if you let down your guard as the good shepherd is three-fold-to kill, to steal and to destroy your life, your relationship with your wife, children and your home (Jn.10:10).

As the good and godly husbandman, you recognize that the devil, who is determined to make you worthless as the man, husband and father, will not come in human form. He will come through the things we read, hear and watch. This is the more reason why you must continue to be watchful over the kind of relationships you initiate and maintain; the nature of conversation you get involved in; the places you go; and the books you read as well as the programmes you also watch and listen to. All of those ungodly acts you are involved in started by a simple and harmless visit and invitation, an unhealthy conversation, careless reading and uncontrolled anger over the offence that your wife or children committed against you.

As the head of the family, you must appreciate that you are created in the image and likeness of God (Gen.1:26-28). So, just like satan took the first husbandman off guard, he also wants to pounce on you and mess your glorious destiny up, if you are not on guard.

But how do I stay on guard and not allow a slip? You do this by living like a resistance army. ….whom resist steadfast in faith (2Pet.5:9a). A resistance army always looks beyond the surface and is battle ready. He does not surrender, he does not give. He fights until he wins. You must resist satan, sin the world steadfastly in watchfulness, prayers and determined commitment to make your life and your walk with God and your and children worthy unto God.

Satan does not wish you well. He hates your office as the godly husbandman. Return fire for fire. Contend against him all on sides.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open the eyes of my spirit to see beyond every offer and suggestion.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of discernment.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of faith to stand against satan.

FAITH CONFESSION

I resist steadfastly satan and his offers by the word of God and by faith because that is what empowers me to remain the good and godly husbandman to God, my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
