WATCH OVER YOUR SHEEP AND SHEEPFOLD (2)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Mk.13:36-37, Jos.24:15, Mk.9:29, Ps.16:6, Lk.18:1, Lk.10:19, Gal.4:19, Is.61:9, Jn.10:7-10, 2Cor.5:17, Ps.16:6, Mk.9:29

The next area you must also watch over is the quantity and quality of relationships that your wife and children have and keep. I am talking about their social lives. Yes, as you are interceding for their spiritual welfare, it is also important for you to guide them in their choice of friends and relationships and guide them away from ungodly associations. Your children are your seeds and your wife your covenant partner (Mal.2:14). If anything goes wrong with them, you will be affected. If it is well with them, it will be well with you and if they hurt, you will also be hurt. Jesus Christ was moved with compassion when He saw the people without a teacher. You are to teach your wife and children on the types of things and people that they should allow into their lives. For instance, the Bible warns that bad company corrupts good manners. We are product of the things we watch, read and the people we meet. Don’t forget that your wife and children also bear your name, so it is in your power to help them project your name, positively to the glory of God.

Now, what are some of the spiritual demands of keeping watch over the quality and quantity of positive relationships that your wife and children keep? Firstly, you enjoy spiritual alertness. What this means is that the fire on your prayer altar will never go off (Lev.6). Because you have now taken responsibility for the lives of wife and children, you will be motivated to continue to press in prayers, fasting and word study towards ensuring that they are better. For as long as Jesus Christ led His disciples, He always separated Himself to pray for them. He was consistently praying for them, as well as teaching them. As it is written in Scriptures, where your treasure is there will your heart be. If truly your wife and children are your treasures, then spiritual engagements would be your delight.

Secondly, you become a spiritual mentor to your sheep. Your wife and children see you as their mentor and this will give you the privilege of having to know firsthand where they hurt or what they fear and what they celebrate. A lot of the times, our sheep do not trust us enough to tell us their secrets, pains, fears and joys. Most times, they hide so much information from us. We only hear when the deed may have been committed. But when your wife and children see you as their mentor, they open up to you about their relationships and this helps you to take informed decision on their behalf that will minimize their mistakes, because mentors always make the journey less difficult for the mentee.

You aren’t making a mistake watching over the lives of your wife and children. It is your mandate. You must deliver on this mandate because that is what makes you the good and godly shepherd.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from spiritual blindness and deafness.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be spiritually alert over the company my wife and children keep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome every intruder that comes around my family fold.

FAITH CONFESSION

I make a commitment to keep and continue to watch over my wife and children as commanded by God because I want to continue to be the good and godly shepherd to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
