THINK DEEPLY BEFORE YOU ACT

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Philps.4:7-8, Dan.1:8, Ss.5:16, Rom.15:14, Matt.5:14-16, Rom.12:1-3, 1Cor.5:17, Rom.8:1, Rom.12:21, Heb.13:5, Ps.24:1-2

Yesterday, by the help of the Holy Spirit, you and I understood the importance of putting on the nature of Jesus Christ as we lead our wife and children. We learnt that to forgive, be kind, and merciful to our sheep is what makes us good and godly husbandmen. I pray in the name of Jesus that you and I will be like Jesus Christ to our wife and children. Amen.

Today, I want us to take it a step further, by considering what God’s word says in Philippians chapter 4 and verse 8.

It says, finally, brethren, whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be anything virtue and if there is anything PRAISEWORTHY, MEDITATE on these things (Philippians 4:8).

This Scripture helps you to think before you act because a lot of times the husbandman acts before he thinks and later regrets his actions. It is true that your wife and children may offend you and that could make you angry. It could also be the temptation to steal, speak ungraceful words, begin extra-marital affair or even to start unhealthy habits. Whatever state you are in, the perfect will of God for you as the good and godly husbandman is to put your body and emotions under control. In Romans chapter 12 and verse 21, the Bible says that, you should not be overcome with evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21).

But for you to think before you act, you must be spiritual by allowing the word of God to dominate your spirit. This is why the Bible says, let this mind be in, even the mind of Christ. The more you allow the Person of the Holy Spirit to teach you God’s word, the better you are guided in your decisions as the godly man, husband and father (Jn.14:26). You must also be a praying husbandman by keeping an uninterrupted communications with God through Jesus Christ. Men ought to always pray and not faint (Lk.18:1). The more you communicate with Jesus Christ, the more you hear Him whispers to you in that small still voice on what to do, what to say and how to say it. Finally, you must daily and consciously die to self and live for Jesus Christ. One prayer I pray regularly is that more of Jesus will manifest in me and less of me. This has helped me, greatly.

So, the next time you want to take a decision over your wife, children, that business or that relationship, ask these questions. Is it the truth? Is it noble? Is it lovely? Is it of good report if your wife and children hear it? Is it something that will be worthy of praise to God? Is it pure? If what you want to do or say doesn’t meet this test in Philippians chapter 4 and verse 8, then it doesn’t fit you as the good and godly husbandman. It’s not worth it. Don’t do it. Think and do only what is lovely, the truth, of good report and will bring glory to your Father in heaven (Matt.5:14-16).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to hold unto what is right at all times as the head of my family
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, strengthen my inner man to refuse to do the wrong things to my wife, children and the society.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, conquer the power of sin and foolishness in my life

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ and I am ruled by His nature in my thoughts, words and actions because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
