REBUILDING THEM BY THE WORD OF GOD

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Neh.4:1-5, Gal.4:19, Lk.5:1-7, Ps.119:104-105, Ps.119:130, Jn.5:39, Jn.8:32, Rom.12:2, Jos.1:8, Ps.1:2-3, Jn.1:1-3, Ps.54:4, Jn.14:26, Is.1:18

In the past few days, we have been teaching on the irrevocable power in the word of God for our success as good and godly husbandmen. The reason is very simple. The word of God is the anchor, it is quick and powerful and can discern the most difficult situation (Heb.4:12). Today, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, let us see another dimension of the word of God.

Sanballat was very angry when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall. He flew into a rage and mocked the Jews, saying in front of his friends and the Samarian army officers, what does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they are doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap and charred ones at that? Tobiah and Ammonite, who was standing beside him, remarked, that stone wall would collapse if even a fox walked along the top of it (Neh.4:1-3) NLT

Nehemiah was a good and godly shepherd to the people of Israel. He needed to rebuild the broken walls of the city of Jerusalem. He wasn’t happy with the poor state of the sheepfold of the people of God. He was committed to effect the change. But the people around him did not think it was possible to rebuild the walls. Sanballat and Tobiah mocked Nehemiah in front of his friends. They taunted him and said, “Nehemiah, do you think you can rebuild the wall in a day? Do you think you can bring something positive out of this rubbish? And finally, they said, “the walls will collapse like a pack of cards”. Notwithstanding the mockery, Nehemiah rebuilt the broken walls.

This is the attitude God wants you to have as you lead your life, your wife and children. As the good and godly husbandman and the head of your family, it may appear that your wife and children are like broken walls. Their character may appear as if they are irredeemable or lost case. Your family members, friends and colleagues may have told you that there is nothing good that will come out from your wife and children. That was the experience of Nehemiah. But as the good and godly shepherd, the negative outcomes of your wife and children are not as important as rebuilding their lives. My little children, I travail in birth again until Christ is formed in you (Gal.4:19). You are the change agent God has sent to their lives to repair those areas where they are failing or have failed. So, don’t give up on them because God hasn’t given up on them.

One major way you can rebuild the broken lives of your wife and children is by the word of God. The word of God is the principal weapon that is able to build them up. It is surer and unfailing. Therefore, engage and continue to use the word of God to pray, think and act as you shepherd your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to build my faith in You and Your word.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from ungodly counsels and associations.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to apply Your word to rebuild the lives of my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have not lost hope in my wife and children because I have the word of God to rebuild their broken lives as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
