AWAKE, YE WATCHMAN! (1)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Mk.13:36-37, Jos.24:15, Ps.16:6, Gal.4:19, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29, Is.11:3, Ps.16:6

Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house cometh at even or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning. Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say to unto all, watch (Mk.13:35-37)

As the good and godly husbandman, the will of God for you is to watch over your life and the lives of your wife and children. God wants you to take responsibility for the spiritual, physical and emotional well-being of your wife and children. God doesn’t want you to be ignorant or careless as you lead yourself and your wife and children.

Reading the Scriptural passage in Mark Gospel chapter 13, Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, admonished His disciple on the need to be watchful. Jesus said, “watch ye therefore…….and what I say unto you, I say to all, watch (Mk.13:35-37)”. It is important for you to know that as the head of your family and the spiritual authority over your wife and children, you have a greater role to play as a watchman. You are the shepherd and your wife and children are your sheep. You are the access door of their lives. You are like the soldier on the watchtower looking over a facility to ensure no intruder gets in.

But how are you to watch over the lives of your wife and children?

The first area you must exercise watchfulness as the godly shepherd is the spiritual lives of your wife and children. And you achieve this by interceding for them in prayers. My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you (Gal.4:19). You must pray for the salvation of the souls of your wife and children. You must pray for the spirit of the fear of God to dwell richly in their lives. You must pray for them to be established in righteousness and good works. This is the way your wife and children can be safe from the influences and pressures of satan, sin and the world. Your greatest heritage is the spiritual wellbeing of your wife and children, because if their spiritual lives are in order, every other area of their lives will also fall unto pleasant places (Ps.16:6).

As the good and godly husbandman, not only should you watch over the spiritual lives of your wife and children, it is very important for you to lead in providing spiritual influences over them. It is the hallmark of godly leadership. And it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell, but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods (Jos.24:15). Joshua led his household to serve the Lord. Are you leading your wife and children to serve the Lord Jesus Christ? Are your thoughts, conduct and action reflecting the character of Jesus Christ both at home and outside your home?

I am on my guard and alert, watching over the lives of my wife and children unto righteousness because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen
