Bible Texts: Heb.12:14-15, Jn.10:10, Col.3:19, Ezk.27:30, Rom.12:2-3, Ezk.28:13, Rom.12:1-3, Rom.12:21
The will of God for you as the good and godly shepherd is to walk in love toward your wife and children. God doesn’t want you to be bitter or live in bitterness toward your wife and children because it doesn’t fit you. It is true that your wife or children may offend you. It is also true that you may be angry with them. But in all these, God wants you to tame your anger so that it does not lead to bitterness.
Now consider the Bible passage in Hebrews chapter 12 and verses 14 and 15 from the New Living Translation.
Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. (Heb.12:14-15) NLT
As the godly husbandman, it is very important to know that bitterness is a very dangerous and poisonous pill. It is a satanic tool that gives birth to all forms of contamination that affects your spiritual, mental, emotional and physical well being. It is one enemy you must fight and overcome by the power of the love of Christ (Rom.12:21).
Now, how does bitterness corrupt you and lead to many troubles? When you are bitter towards your wife and children you do not see anything good about them. Everything they do irritate you. You are easily provoked and you continue to seek for ways to take revenge against them. Their thoughts make you sad and give heaviness of heart. All these contaminate your glorious destiny as the good and godly husbandman and satan is the force behind it. In John 10:10, hear what the Scripture says about the mission of satan when he makes you live in bitterness towards your wife and children. The thief (satan) cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy…….(Jn.10:10a). The devil wants to steal, kill and destroy your life, your relationship with your wife and children and you family kingdom. Satan thrives in deceit and lies, and the vehicle he would use to defile you is bitterness.
There is no way you can pray for your wife and children when you are bitter toward them. There is no way you can think right thought or better things about your wife and children if you are bitter with them. In Ezk.27:30, the Scripture has this to say. And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes (Ezk.27:30). When you are bitter, you reduce yourself to ashes, which is an insignificant part of wood. Therefore, never allow bitterness to have a place in your life. Be not overcome by evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21).
God has prepared your life for glory, honour, purity, peace, and joy. Let the love of Christ reign in your life over the failures, shortcomings and offences of your wife and children because, Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God, every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold, the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was PREPARED IN THEE (YOU) IN THE DAY THAT THOU WAST CREATED (Ezk.28:13)
