Bible Texts: 1Tim.3:1-7, 1Tim.4:6, Eph.5:25, Col.3:19. Eph.6:4, 1Cor.13:4-8, Ps.1:1-3, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1
What picture frame do you reflect? Can your wife and children see your life and conclude that you are Christ’s portrait? Have you considered a picture frame? Okay, let me explain few characteristics of a picture frame. The first is that it puts the pictures in fit position. The second is that it shows you the image of the person.
So, today, I want us to look at the picture frame of the good and godly husbandman from the word of God and see if you truly fit into it.
The husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity (1Tim.3:2-5).
From this Bible passage the following are the picture frame of the good and godly husbandman. The good and godly husbandman must be married to just one wife. Do you why? Because from the beginning God made one woman for Adam (Gen.2:18-25). He must also be vigilant, spiritually and mentally. He must also be of good behavior. He must be very hospitable to his wife, children and outsiders. He must be willing to teach and be teachable. He must not give himself to drinking wine or alcohol. He must not be a trouble maker but a problem solver. He must not be a wife beater or child abuser and molester. He must not be greedy and covetous, leading him to easily compromise his integrity for material and financial gains. He must rule his own family and household very well. He is knowledgeable and not ignorant about the welfare of his wife and children, nurturing them in the way of the Lord. He is humble in the heart, not proud and boastful. He must have a good report from his wife, children and from those outside.
The will of God for you is to be like Jesus Christ to your wife and children and in the market place of life. God wants your wife and children to see the nature of Jesus Christ through your conduct, action and responses. But you can only become the good and godly husbandman by giving your life to Jesus Christ (Jn.3:5-6). The second is for you to give attention to studying the Bible (Jos.1:6-8). The more you study the word of God, the more you reflect His nature in all that you do. Thirdly, you must pray and continue to pray for the word of God to gain root in your heart and bear fruits in your life (Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29).
You and I must keep living our lives to demonstrate to our wife and children that we are indeed good and godly husbandmen, bringing glory to Jesus Christ (Matt.5:14-16).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to exercise myself to become the good and godly husbandman.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome the mystery of iniquity.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to reflect Your nature in all that I do.
FAITH CONFESSION:
I am the portrait of Jesus Christ to my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
