GO FORTH AND WORK

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Ps.104:22-23, 1Thess.4:11, 1Tim.5:8, Jn.5:17, Ps.1:1-4, Gen.13:2, Ps.1:1-4,

The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens. Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until evening (Ps.104:22-23).

During my study time, I came across the above Bible passage in Psalms chapter 104 and verses 22 through to 23. And the Person of the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see the dignity of work. He also helped me to understand that as the good and godly husbandman, I must not return home until evening. I must go about my work, that is, go to my work. I must engage my spirit, mind, and hands productively in order for me to earn income so that I can provide for my family.

As the good and godly husbandman and the shepherd over God’s treasure-your wife and children, you must embrace work because it is the cure to your lack. The Bible says in Psalms chapter 1, that whatever he lays his hands to do shall prosper. (Ps.1:1-4). God wants to prosper you but needs a channel to accomplish that purpose in your life. And that is by the work of your hands.

As the good and godly shepherd, the only way to escape the temptation of depending on your wife for your needs-clothing, shelter, feeding, and transportation- is to leave the house to work. It is not honourable on your part for your wife to be responsible for the financial and material administration of your family. In the First book of Timothy chapter 5, the word of God says that, any husband who cannot provide for his household is worse than an infidel? (1Tim.5:8) Jesus Christ, Who is your perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, was a worker. He was not only diligent at His work, He also provided all that His disciples needed. They did not lack anything.

But why must I work? The reason why you must work is found in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4. And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you. That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without and that ye may have lack for nothing (1Thess.4:11-12). The first is because it is a commandment from God. Secondly, it is what gives value to your person. Thirdly, it makes you live a honest live. Fourthly, it empowers you financially and gives you the opportunity to earn income and provide for those who do not have.

Abraham worked and earned his place in destiny as a rich and blessed husband (Gen.13:2, Gen.24:1). Job was a worker and became one of the richest people in his time (Job 1:1-3). Isaac, the husbandman of Rebekah worked and became so rich that an entire nation envied him (Gen.26:1-13).

Wake up, husbandman! Wake up! Now is the time to work. Now is the time God wants to bless us. Now is the time God wants to favour us. There is dignity in work. Let’s get to work.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my inner eyes to see the work I can engage in to make profit and be responsible to my life, wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every root of deception and half truths.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, bless the work of my hands.

FAITH CONFESSION:

I engage my spirit, mind and hands to work diligently, committedly and faithfully so that I can provide for myself, my wife and children and others because that is why my honour lies as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
