Bible Texts: Gen.17:1-3, Ps.51:10, Rom.12:1-3, 1Tim.3:2-4, Ps.24:1-2, Jn.3:1-8, Gen.2:16-18, 2Cor.5:17, Gen.18:19
After so many encounters that Abraham had with God, yet God still had to say something very remarkable to him and that is our focus for today as we continue in our build up to becoming the good and godly husbandman.
Walk before me and be ye perfect (Gen.17:1-3). What did God mean when He commanded the husbandman, Abraham to walk before Him and what did God mean when He said be perfect? These are pertinent questions. And if they can be answered it will help every husbandman to cultivate, develop and sustain the godly virtues that make for good and godliness.
To walk before God means to do things that are right and act on what is right (Ps.24:1-3). And to be matured means to develop godly virtues of patient, kindness, compassion, mercy, prayerfulness, and so much more (1Cor.13:1-8). So, as the good and godly husbandman, irrespective of your title or position, two things you must seek. The first to walk before God and not man by living your life to please Jesus Christ and through it become an effective and efficient godly man, husband and father to your wife, children and the world. The second is to intentionally search from the word of God, the benchmarks that God has set for you as the good and godly husbandman and engage the forces of prayer and fasting to make it happen to you. This is what a matured godly husbandman represents.
You are not matured when you are easily provoked, unable to control your tongue and easily irritated. You are also not matured if you cannot control your appetite for food, position, power, fame, money and sex because if you are not, you can be easily compromised and lose your stand in righteousness in Jesus Christ.
But how do walk before Jesus Christ and be perfect? The first is that you must receive Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and personal savior (Jn.3:1-5). Secondly, you must deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ in order to know Him more and more (2Cor.5:17). Thirdly, you search the Scriptures and continue to feed yourself with knowledge of who you are as the man, husband and father from the Word of God (Jn.6:61-63). The more you know the word and are committed to acting on the instructions, the better you are in your relationship with your wife and children. Fourthly, pray the virtues into reality in your life (Gal.2:13, Gal.4:19).
God wants you to know His Son, Jesus, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, more and more. God’s will for you and me is to be like Jesus Christ in all things and for all things. And if you want to be useful to your wife, children and the world, you must decide to walk before God and be matured. Godliness is what invites the power, person and presence of God into your life and home. And it also dispels every spirit of disobedience from having a hold on the lives of your wife and children. It is through a godly life that you can gain access into the wisdom of God that will make you reign in your family kingdom.
You are created to occupy a godly office. You have the gene of righteousness in you. All you need to do is to activate the gene for effective performance as the good and godly husbandman. So, grow to know Jesus Christ and be willing to abide in Him. When you abide in Him, He also abides in you and through it all you think, talk and conduct yourself as the good and godly husbandman to your wife, children and the world.
