SERVICE IS A GREAT VIRTUE

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Lk.22:26-27, Jn.10:14, Heb.13:20, Is.40:11, Gen.2:15-18, 1Cor.13:4-8, 1Pet.3:7-9, Ps.23:2, Gal.4:19, 1Tim.5:7-8

One of the greatest virtues every good and godly husbandman must covet is servant-hood.  This virtue does not only to make the godly husbandman look good before God, his wife, children and in the market place of life, it is the totality of who God is to us. God served and still serving us with salvation, good health, provision, protection, direction, inspiration and so much more when we ask Him to. And because you and I have the nature of God because we are made in His image and likeness, we are ultimately servants to our wife and children. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, reinforced this truth in Luke chapter 22 and verses 26 to 27.

But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? BUT I AM AMONG YOU AS HE THAT SERVETH (Lk.22:26-27).

Jesus speaking said, that but I am among you as he that serveth (Lk.22:27). So service is the gateway to rulership and it must be intentional. The more you serve your wife and children the higher you climb in your role as the king, priest, pastor and prophet in their lives.

A lot of husbandmen claim that they are the heads of their families but many have refused to accept the responsibilities that the office of the husbandman commands. You must understand that the office of the husbandman is a call to serve the interest of your wife and children. Sadly, many husbandmen are wallowing in ignorance and others are just stubborn. However, as the good and godly husbandman, you must appreciate that there are two Scriptural truths that must guide your life as you come to the consciousness that you are created to serve. The first is that being the husbandman is a privilege from God. And the second is that being the husbandman comes with enormous responsibilities.

We may not be able to consider the two platforms of the servant-husbandman today but let us consider the first, which is-PRIVILEGE. To be the husbandman is a privilege given to you by God, and you do not take it for granted. Rather, you must cherish it. I once said that any man can be a father but not any man can be a husband. You can have fathers who are not married to the mothers of their children but you cannot have a husband who is not married to a wife. You are married not because you are richer or smarter or more educated than your other male friends. It is just that God’s mercy and favour located you and gave you a wife so that you can be her lord and spiritual leader. There are many husbands who are so well connected, exposed and even richer but cannot find fulfillment as the good and godly husbandman.

This is why Scriptures say that, he that finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord.

So to become the husbandman is a God-given opportunity for you to demonstrate Jesus’s love and character towards your wife and children. It is your best platform of leadership. You are there to galvanize your wife and children to greater heights by serving them. Therefore, you must maximize your time with them by serving their best interest.

SPIRITUAL EXRCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a true servant to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of servant-hood and let me serve my wife and children delightfully.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from pride and a haughty spirit.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to serving my wife and children with the whole of my heart, spirit, body and soul because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
