LIFT UP YOUR EYES TO THE HILLS AND NOT THE ILLS

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Ps.121:1-2, Ps.18:3, Ps.102:2, Ps.86:7, Ps.116:13, Jer.33:3, Matt.7:7, Heb.11:6, Ps.23:1-2

Praise God! It is a brand new day! It is a day of joy and rejoicing for every husbandman.

Now, let us start today with this inspiration the Person of the Holy Spirit gave me some years ago. And those words have become my anchor over the years as I lead my life, wife, children and in the market place of life.

The Holy Ghost said to me, “who you call first in the day of trouble reflects where your trust and loyalty lie”. I believe this same word is for a husbandman reading today’s devotional.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord who made the heaven and earth (Ps.121:1)

As the good and godly husbandman and the person whom God has given the mandate to lead, guide, protect and provide for your wife and children, it is important for you to recognize who your must call first when you are faced with challenges. Who you call when you have challenges in your life and with your wife and children is as critical as the responses you receive. And it also explains where your trust and loyalty lie, whether it is in God or man?

The Bible, which is the anchor for your success as the good and godly man, husband and father provides the answer.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord who made the heaven and earth (Ps.121:1).

God says lift up eyes to Him and not to the challenges. God says call me first and not man. God says contact me first because my lines are not busy. And in case you think God is too busy to answer you, He says these words to you. Call unto me and I will answer you (Jer.33:3). Man, friends, family members, colleagues, relations and religious and political god fathers will fail you but God, who is the Great Provider will not fail you. This is the secret. When you call God first, He calls the solutions second to flow in your direction, either physical, mental, human or material.

But what do I require to call God first? The first requirement is a relationship with Jesus Christ. You must not only receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour, you must also develop and sustain a fruitful relationship with Him through word study, meditation, prayer and fellowship with other brethren (Jn.3:2-6, 2Cor.5:17, Jn.3:15-17). The second requirement is that you must walk by faith and not by sight. He that must come to God must first believe that He is and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Heb.11:6). The third requirement is hope which compels you to speak boldly your expectations, be it in the open or secret.

But how do you call Him as your first responder? You call to Him through prayer. In Matthew chapter 7 and verses 7 and 8, the word of God says, ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be open unto you (Matt.7:7-8). Prayer, which is your communication to God through Jesus Christ, is the only channel through which you talk to God and build trust in Him.

There is a way out of that problem you are having in your life and with your wife and children. God has the answers. Call Him today and He will answer you speedily. Put your first call to God through Jesus Christ and watch Him come through for you to the end that you triumph as the good and godly husbandman.

Spiritual Exercise

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to call You first in all my challenges.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not to give up on my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, hear and answer me when I call You

Faith Confession

I have made up my mind to call on God first for all the answers I need regarding my leadership role in my sheepfold because that is what I need to succeed as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
