Some time ago, at the Bible study, I taught them that wisdom begins with knowledge. That when you know and understand, then apply yourself to what you know, then the person can be said to be wise. This means that if you and I want to become the good and godly husbandman that will bring glory to God, through Jesus Christ, to our wife and children and in the market place of life, we must first know who we are. So, by the grace of God and the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we shall be exploring the Word of God to locate the qualities that define who the good and godly husbandman is.
I pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the release of the power of the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to see and your ears to hear and to empower you to be willing to do of His good pleasure. You will not lose your leadership as the husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
Today, the first knowledge from God’s word that makes the good and godly husbandman is honour. In Psalms chapter 24, read what the word of God says.
Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart, who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor swore deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation (Ps.24:3-5).
Every husbandman who wants to be good and godly must choose the path of honour. When your wife offends you, do you put your emotions under control to the extent that you do not think the drinking bar or the brothel or saying abusive words to her is the best way to contain your anger? Would you rather work with your hands and provide for your needs and the needs of your wife and children rather than be a dependent husbandman who depends on his wife for everything and yet he is comfortable? Would you rather lose your job rather than compromise your integrity as a Christian husbandman? Would you exchange your peace of mind for an offer of unforgiveness and bitterness against your wife or children? If your answer is to choose the path of honour rather than short-cuts, then you are on your way to becoming the good and godly husbandman.
As the head of the family, you must understand that God doesn’t want you to live as an average husbandman. God wants you to be an awesome husbandman. God wants you to be a honourable husbandman. The husbandman, Abraham lived below God’s plan because at age 75 years, he was still living in his family house. But God called him out in Gen.12:1-3 and showed him a great future.
Now the Lord said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house unto a land I will show. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great and thou shall be a blessing (Gen.12:1-2).
And in chapter 14:21-24, he was tested. And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth. That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet and that I will not take anything that is thine…..(Gen.14:21-24).
As the husbandman, where do you stand in your relationship with God, your wife, your children and the market places of life? There is no better way to demonstrate and reflect that you are honourable than to obey all the instructions of God in His word for you as the man, husband and father. Honour is your heritage in Jesus Christ as the husbandman.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live an honourable life as the husbandman.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every trap of iniquity and fear.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me to reflect the nature of Jesus Christ to my wife, children and the world.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have chosen to walk in the path of honour and I honour God with my spirit, soul and body because that is what beautifies my life and qualifies me as the honourable and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
