Bible Texts: 1Thess.5:20-22, Pro.5:8, Pro.7:7, 2Cor.7:1, 2Cor.5:17, Ps.24:1-3, Ps.1:13, Matt.5:6, Heb.4:13, Rom.8:1
“There is a clarion call from God on you and I to arise and live a godly life. God is calling on you and I to make a firm commitment to abstain from all appearance of evil because the destinies of our wife and children hangs on what we do and refuse to do. Righteousness will always exalt and promote, no matter how slow it may be.”That is the word of the Spirit of God for you and I today.
Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying. Prove all things, hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil (1Thess.5:20-22).
Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, not sits in the seat of the scornful nor stands in the way of sinners (Ps.1:1-2).
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the God (2Cor.7:1)
As the good and godly husbandman, you must fight the good fight of faith to retain and sustain the dignity of your office because there are several things and diversions that are calling for your attention-the internet, television, newspapers, radio programmes and even your friends. These deviations are designed to take you away from your God, wife and children. They are traps of the enemy set up to destroy the relationship you have with God, your wife and children. And that explains why as the head of the family, God is warning you to run away from anything and any arena that appears sin-attractive. Just the same way pin gets to be pulled by a magnet if it gets close to it, you must not get close to the magnetic field of sin.
For instance, you must avoid the arena of a beer parlour or the lure of a brothel or even the house of a woman who is not your wife if you don’t want to fall into temptation. This is why the Bible warns that you and I must not walk not in the counsel of the ungodly nor sit in the seat of the scornful nor stand in the way of sinners (Ps.1:1-2). You must be very careful with what you say, where you go and who you meet. From time to time you must evaluate the impact of your relationships because relationship is a choice. It is either it is helping you to grow to become the good and godly husbandman or it is diminishing you.
But how do I know which magnetic field has sin beneath it and flee from it? You will know through the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit. In Jn.14:26, the Word of God says that He will teach you all things and guide you into all truth (Jn.14:26). So the Person of the Holy Spirit will teach where to go and how to go and He will also guide you in and out of unhealthy relationships. However, you must invite Him into your life and be willingly to do His bidding. Secondly, you must engage the weapon of the blood of Jesus Christ and continue to examine your life against the word of God (Rev.12:11, 2Cor.13:5, Hag.1:7).
Your life and that of your wife and children are precious in the sight of God. You must not disappoint God by allowing your life to be messed up by satan, sin and the world (Jn.10:10). Flee from all appearance of evil and keep off from the magnetic field of sin.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, please guide and lead me away from the environment of sin, even as I lead my life, wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to flee from all appearance of sin and its attraction.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, let Your mercy prevail over my life and restore my dignity.
FAITH CONFESSION
I flee from all appearance of evil and I walk away from the magnetic field of sin because I have power with God to live as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus mighty name. Amen
