UNDERSTANDING THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF CHOICE

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Deut.30:19, Jos.24:15, 1Kgs.18, Ps.24:1-3, 1Tim.3:1-5, Rom.5:5, Rom.8:1, Matt.5:6

I did not plan to write on the topic “understanding the power of choice”. But while I was in my sleeping state this morning, the Holy Spirit directed me to teach on the topic. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that at the end of today’s teaching, you will make and begin to make right choices that agree with the word of God. Amen.

Now, consider these three verses of Scripture and the consequences of the choices their leaders made both on themselves and the people they led.

The first was Joshua. Joshua was a man whom God chose to lead the people of Israel, including his wife and children to the promise land. A time came that he had to make a choice and he did make a choice. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye shall serve……..but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods (Jos.24:14-16)

The second leader is Prophet Isaiah. There was an argument of who the true God was. Is it the God of Israel or of Baal? Then he put up a contest of choice to determine the true God. And the people after the contest had to choose the God of Israel as the true God because Prophet Isaiah led them to make the choice. And Elijah came unto all the people and said, how long halt between two opinions? If the Lord is God follow him, but if Baal, then follow him. Then said Elijah unto the people, I even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord….And call ye on the name of your gods and I will call on the name of the Lord…….And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and they said, the Lord , he is the God, the Lord, he is the God (1Kgs.18: 21-39).

The third is God Himself. He said to the people of Israel to choose between life and death. But He advised them to choose life because He is life-giving. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may life (Deut.30:19)

But why is the choice I make so important to God, myself, wife and children? The first is that as the husbandman, the choices you make as the man, husband and father have positive or negative impact on you, your wife and children. In Psalms chapter 112 and verses 1 to 10, the Word of God tells us that when you and I choose to serve God and do what pleases Him, He will not only bless us but our entire generation will also be blessed. The second is that the choice you make influences the direction and path your wife and children will also take, be it righteousness or evil.

God wants you and I to choose what His words say and live. God wants you and I to choose His commandments because they are life unto all they that find them. As the good and godly husbandman, this is what God wants for you. Choose life that you may live.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to make godly choices in my life and as I lead my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the spirit of boldness and courage to always do Your perfect will for my life, wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me through Your word and help me to love You with the whole of my heart, might and strength.

FAITH CONFESSION

I choose to serve God and obey all His commandments through the love of Christ that is spread richly in my heart because that is what empowers me to become the good and godly husbandman in Jesus mighty name. Amen
