Bible Texts: Mk.10:42-43, Lk.22:25, Matt.20:26-28, Jn.10:10, Col.3:19, Eph.5:25, 1Cor.13:4-8, Eph.6:4, 1Pet.3:7-9, Jn.3:16, 1Tim.3:1-6
But Jesus called them to him and saith unto them, ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you, but whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister (Mk.10:42-43).
Every good and godly husbandman wants to exercise rule over his wife and children. He wants to exercise authority and be known to be the lord over all. These expectations are not wrong in themselves because that is the blessings that come with being the shepherd over your wife and children (Gen.1:26-28, Gen.2:14-16). But sadly, most husbandmen are unable to achieve this greatness because they do not know the secret from the word of God.
Now, this is what the Scriptures say about the road that leads to greatness for you in the eyes of your wife and children.
But so shall it not be among you, BUT WHOSOEVER WILL BE GREAT AMONG YOU SHALL BE YOUR MINISTER (Mk.10:43). Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says that if you want to be great among your wife and children, you must be their minister. A minister is a servant. He is appointed to serve the interest of his appointer for the benefit of the people he is sent to serve. God is your appointer and you are His appointee or minister. He has sent you to serve His interests for the good of His treasures-your wife and children (Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4).
The questions are these. Are you a servant indeed to your wife and children? How have you served them? And have you served them according to the plans and purposes of God? Serving your wife and children doesn’t make you cheap. Giving them your best doesn’t make you a fool. Investing your God-giving resources in them doesn’t make you a loser. Rather, serving the interest of your wife and children by the word of God makes you great. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son…(Jn.3:16). God served us by giving us His best-Jesus Christ. God wants you to serve your wife and children by giving them His best.
Some of the ways you serve your wife and children are these. Firstly, by helping them spiritually-pray for them, teach the word of God to them and guide them through the word of Christ. Secondly, by helping them physically-either in house chores, carrying those things they cannot carry themselves, massage their bodies when they hurt. Thirdly, by helping them emotionally-support them when they are hurt, stand for them when they are confused and strengthen them when they seem to be losing hope. Fourthly, by helping them financially-pay their bills for house keep, school fees, rent, healthcare, and other things that pertain to life and godliness.
There is joy in service. It is the pathway to your greatness as the good and godly husbandman. If you want to be great and remain so, minister to your wife and children.
