THE LAW OF REPETITION (13)

Spread the love

Fear thou not, for I am with thee ……..yea I will help thee…For I thy Lord will hold your thy right hand, saying unto thee, fear not, I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm of Jacob, and ye men of Israel, I will help thee (Is.41:10-14).

Rejoice, again I say rejoice (Philp.4:4)

CAUGHT IN THE VERY ACT

Main Scriptures: Jn.8:1-12

More Scriptures: 1Pet.3:7, Matt.8:27, Lk.10:33

Every time I read this story about the woman who was caught in the very act of adultery, I see the loving-kindness of Jesus to humanity. The more I meditate on this truth from the word of God, the deeper my heart wells up with compassion for my wife and children and to humanity.

A few times as husbands, we catch our flock in the very act of betrayal, disobedience, rebellion, indolence and other form of ungodliness. A lot of the times as the leader and head of your family, you are so overwhelmed by the weight of the offences of your flock that you find it very hard to forgive them.

Now if Jesus commands every husband to love his wife as He loves the Church, it means that every husband can replicate what He did and still doing to humanity, beginning with the adulterous woman.  What is your attitude toward your wife, children and others when they offend you? Are you moved by compassion towards them the same way Jesus was moved with compassion towards the people that had no shepherd (Mk.6:34)? Or you are quick to condemn them?

The woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. So, there was no way she could escape from the impending judgment. Infact, her accusers brought her to Jesus, already judged and condemned. They wanted Jesus to condemn her as well and justifiable so.

But Jesus saw beyond her faults. He saw a better life for her. While the people condemned her, Jesus did not. This is the kind of mind that God wants you and I to have as husbands and spiritual leaders. The Scriptures say, “let this mind be in you, even the mind of Christ” (Phil.2:5). God wants you to be guided by His word and not traditions and customs of men. He wants your decision to be influenced by the revealed truth of His word. If you do not allow your mind to be influenced by the word of God, you will struggle to let go offences from your flock.

Why must you contend against this trap of offence which the devil wants you to fall into? Satan wants your prayers to be hindered. In 1Pet.3:7, the Scripture says, husbands treat thy wife according to knowledge and as joint heir of the grace of God in you so that your prayers will not be hindered. Another translation says, so that your prayers will not be stopped. The joy of any husband is when he receives answers to his prayers. It does not only increase his faith, it also strengthens and deepens his relationship with God.

Let mercy and compassion override judgment.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, endue me with power to forgive and not condemn my flock.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, give me a large heart of compassion towards my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every root of bitterness at work in my life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I walk in the love and compassion of Christ towards my wife and children because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
