Fear thou not, for I am with thee ……..yea I will help thee…For I thy Lord will hold your thy right hand, saying unto thee, fear not, I will help thee. Fear not, thou worm of Jacob, and ye men of Israel, I will help thee (Is.41:10-14).
Rejoice, again I say rejoice (Philp.4:4)
LET YOUR LIFE MINISTER TO YOUR FLOCK
Main Scriptures: Acts 20:33-34
More Scriptures: Acts 20:35, 1Tim.5:8, Jn.14:26
Any husband who covets or depends on the silver or gold or apparels of his parents, relations has defeated the purpose why God made him the head of his family.
I have coveted no man’s silver or gold or apparel. Yea, ye yourselves know that THESE HANDS have ministered unto my necessities and to them that were with me (Acts 20:33-34).
The Scripture today explains to us that the leader, Apostle Paul engaged his hands so much that he did not only meet his personal needs, he also met the needs of those with him. He was never a burden on his parents or relations, rather he was an asset. So, the question every husband must ask himself is, am I coveting another man’s possessions or banking on another man’s possessions to make a living? Am I a burden or an asset to those around me? How much value am I adding to those in and around me?
As the head of your family and the spiritual leader of your home, it is dishonorable for you to be dependent on your parents even after you are married for your upkeep. Your honour as the head of your family is your capacity to be the principal provider of the necessities of your wife and children and a channel through which God will bless others (Gen.12:1-3).
In 1Tim.5:7-8, the word of God clearly states that it is your primary responsibility to meet the necessities of your wife and children. Adam didn’t depend on his wife or parents to meet the needs of the family neither did Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Job. These husbands were men of honour and integrity. They were hard workers and ministered to the necessities of their flock.
When you are a dependent husband, it erodes your value and dignity. You lose your authority as the priest and prophet.
So, what must I do to ensure that I minister to the necessities of my flock as my core responsibility as a husband? Work, and productively work. You must refuse to become a leech on any man, irrespective of how close they are to you. You must continue to engage your spirit, soul and body in such a way that you are always out there working.
Secondly, you must ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what steps to take concerning the work of your hands. The word of God tells us that it is the Lord that teaches us to prosper and leads us in the way that we should (Is.48:17). In Jn.14:26, the Scripture tells us that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit will teach us all things and bring to our remembrance al things (Jn.14:26).
Your dignity is being a responsible and independent husband, working diligently and productively and providing for yourself and for your wife, children and others around you. You must make your life count.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me hands to be productive in all my works.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the power of covetousness in my life and fill me with the spirit of contentment.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, satisfy me early with Your goodness and let it my life be an example to others.
FAITH CONFESSION
I work diligently and productively to meet the needs of my wife, children and those around me because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
