As the good and godly husbandman, you must understand that there are so many landmines that satan, sin and the world have set for you so that you fall. These landmines include sexual immorality, envy, bitterness, unforgiveness, bad will, busyness, and so much more. It is for these temptations that the word of God admonishes you to watch and pray.
Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready but the flesh is weak. And again he went away and prayed and spake the same words (Mk.14:38-39). As you lead your life, wife and children, challenges will come that will test your readiness to forgive when you are offended, to overcome immoral and extra-marital affair, to walk in love towards your wife and children even if they do not deserve it. So, if you want to be battle-ready for victory as the good and godly husbandman, you must watch and pray.
Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says, men ought to always pray and not faint (Lk.18:1). If you do not want to fail and fall into temptation, pray always and be watchful.
There are two prayers you must pray to enjoy God’s help to be watchful and strong. The first is to ask God to give your hearing ears and seeing eyes. In Ephesians chapter 1, the Scriptures say, I pray that your eyes of understanding be enlightened…..(Eph.1:18). When your eyes and ears are opened, you are able to see through the tricks and hear the whispers of the Person of the Holy Spirit on what to do and not to do. In John chapter 14, the Word of God says that God will send the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, who will teach you all things…..(Jn.14:26).
The second prayer is to ask God to empower to overcome the temptation to act contrary to God’s perfect will for you as the good and godly husbandman. The Bible speaking says that it is God who worketh in you power both to will and do his good pleasure (Philp.2:13). Without the help of God, you will continue to fail and fall in your quest to become the good and godly husbandman because without Jesus Christ, you can do nothing (Jn.15:5). A lot of times, there is the willingness in you but doing what God commands you is always a struggle. But when you ask God for His help, He will help you to do His perfect will.
The call to husband-hood is a call to become like Jesus Christ to your wife and children and reflect same in the market place of life. You must recognize that your leadership comes with challenges. But you must not give in to satan, sin and the world. You must be determined to live your life in the fullness of God’s instructions for you as the good and godly man, husband and father. You must not be careless about your life and what God commands you to do as the good and godly man, husband and father. You must watch and pray.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes over the issues of life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from temptation.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to know and do Your perfect will as the man, husband and father.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have power with God and by His help I become all that He wants me to be as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
