Bible Texts: Ps.15:2-3, Philp.4:8, Col.2:8, Heb.12:2, Matt.5:37, Ps.24:1-3, Col.3:19, Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:6-10, Gen.18:19, Rom.12:21, Gal.2:13
Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, you and I understood that we have been called by God as husbandmen to make profit and bring glory to His name through our conduct, responses and action. And that we cannot wish to be good and godly husbandmen rather we must be diligent and committed to be doers of the instructions of God’s word for us as men, husbands and fathers. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that grace to be diligent in your election and calling as the husbandman be poured upon you. Amen (Gal.2:13).
Today, let us consider three measurement tools you can use to assess your life if you are indeed the good and godly husbandman. And our anchor Scripture is from Psalms chapter 15.
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness and speaketh the truth in his heart (Ps.15:2).
How do I know if I am truly the good and godly husbandman? The Word of God in Psalms provides the answer. The Bible says, walk uprightly, work righteousness and speak the truth from your heart. What then does it mean to walk uprightly, work righteousness and speak the truth from the heart?
To walk uprightly means that you are a person of integrity, you are faithful to God, your wife, children and in all your pursuits and you have strong godly values which you believe in and you hold onto, regardless of the pressure or challenges. This is what Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says in Matthew chapter 5 and verses 14 through to 16. Let your light so shine before men…..(Matt.5:14-16).
To work righteousness means to do what is right to God, your wife, children and in the marketplace, using the word of God as your basis (Ps.24:1-3, Col.3:19, Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:6-10, Gen.18:19, Rom.12:21. It means honouring God and His word over and above what the world says or thinks. The Bible says this. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ (Col.2:8).
To speak the truth from the heart means that you mean what you say and say what you mean. It means you are not a hypocrite to God, yourself, your wife, children and in the marketplace. The Bible says, let your yea be yea and your nay be nay (Matt.5:37, Matt.15:8).
Now the questions you must ask yourself are these.
Are you walking uprightly? Are you working righteousness? Are you speaking the truth from your heart? Can you safely say that your life and conduct and action conform to the image and likeness of Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman? (Heb.12:2)
As the husbandman, you must understand that being the good and godly husbandman is a journey. And to make the most of it, you must daily examine your life, thought, action, responses and relationship with your heavenly Father, your wife, children and in the marketplace to see if they are in line with the instructions, admonitions, exhortations and wisdom of God’s word.
