Bible Texts: Jer.1:10-12, Gen.1:2-3, Rom.5:5, Jn.10:10, Gen.12:1-3, Gal.4:19, Gal.2:13, Lk.18:1, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, Ps.23:1, 1Tim.5:8, 2Tim.2:15, Jos.1:6-8
A lot of times the husbandman and shepherd does not appreciate the importance and power of vision as one of the most crucial tools that he requires to maximize his leadership role in the sheepfold. This explains why so many husbandmen give up quite easily and quickly when they are faced with the challenges of leading themselves, their wife and children. And many more do not have any more reason why they must remain in the sheepfold and continue to lead their wife and children. All of this is because the shepherd has no vision for his life, wife, children and home.
This is the word of God for you as regards vision.
Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying Jeremiah, WHAT SEEST THOU? And I said I see a rod of an almond tree. Then said the Lord unto me, thou hast well seen for I will hasten my word to perform it. (Jer.1:11-12) KJV
Prophet Jeremiah was ordained a prophet before his mother ever conceived him. God had made him a leader from the foundation of the world but he did not see what God was showing him. So God had to engage him. God asked him a simple question. What do you see or better still what can you see? He responded that he saw an almond tree. And God said to him that he has seen well. With this understanding of vision, he never gave up on his assignment as a prophet over the people of God. What he saw motivated him to lead the people and become all that God wanted him to be.
God is asking you the same question He asked Jeremiah. What seest thou? What vision can you see about your life as the husbandman? What future can you see about your wife, children and home?
As the good and godly husbandman, you can, by the power of vision, lead your wife and children without giving up on your role as the man, husband and father, regardless of the challenges that come with being a leader. The word of God says that where there is no vision, the people perish. Vision is life. Vision gives meaning and value to your existence as the husbandman.
But where is the source of the vision and future God wants you to have as you lead your life, wife and children? The source is the word of God. The Bible provides you with the vision God has for you as the good and godly man, husband and father. This is why God says that the thoughts I have for you are thoughts of good and not evil, to give you a hope and a future (Jer.29:11). The vision that your wife and children are wonderfully made by God and given to you for your good must dominate you. The vision that through you shall your wife, children and the world be blessed must take hold of you. The vision that your home is compact and a reflection of goodness, joy and fruitfulness must always be in front of you. Just search the Bible and you will find amazing visions of God for your life, wife, children and home.
So, what is the power that a godly vision for your family can have on your life thereby making you to succeed as the godly man, husband and father?
Firstly, vision allows you to see things not as they are but as God sees them. That is to say you see the good in your wife and children and this helps you to radiate the God-kind of love towards them (Rom.5:5). Secondly, vision allows you to be filled with compassion and mercy towards your wife and children when they mess up and this motivates you to act positively to help them become better people (Gal.4:19). Thirdly, vision gives you the conviction to stand with your wife and children, notwithstanding their weaknesses and shortcoming and this builds confidence in you to speak against every satanic force causing all the troubles in your sheepfold (Jn.10:10, Rev.12:10-12). Finally, vision brings you joy as you see the fulfillment of God’s plans and purposes for your life as the good and godly husbandman and for your wife and children.
Again, what can you see about yourself as the man, husband and father? What can you see about your wife and children as you lead them? Where there is no vision, the people perish (Pro.29:18)
