Bible Texts: Ps.104:22-23, 1Tim.5:8, Jn.5:17, 1Thess.4:11, Gen.13:2, Gen.24:1, Job 1:1-3, Gen.26:1-13, Ps.1:3, Ps.23:1, Is.41:18
During my personal study of my Bible, the Person of the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to see the dignity of work. He showed me how through diligence, I can terminate lack in my life as the good and godly husbandman. He also helped me to understand that as the husbandman, I must not return home until evening. I must go about my work, that is, go to my work.
I want you and I to please read this word of the Lord slowly and intentionally.
The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens. Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until evening (Ps.104:22-23).
As the husbandman and the good shepherd over your wife and children, the cure to your lack is work. I mean working with your hands and mind. The only way to escape the temptation of depending on your wife or others for your needs-clothing, shelter, feeding, and transportation- is to work. It is dishonourable for you to be lazy mentally and physically and depend on your wife for the financial and material administration of your family kingdom. It is a shame for you as the husbandman and leader to hide under the cover of half truth that you and your wife are now one and for that reason living off her salaries or income is scriptural. It is a lie and the philosophies of men.
Now, see what the truth of Scriptures is.
But if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel (1Tim.5:8).
If you begin your reading from verse 1 of 1st Timothy chapter 5, the Scripture provides the responsibilities for different people including the leader. Jesus Christ, Who is your perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, was a worker. He was not only diligent, He also provided all that His disciples needed. At one time, He asked His disciples, lacketh thou anything? And they responded, “we lacked nothing.”. Jesus speaking said, my Father worketh, so I work.
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you. That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without and that ye may have lack for nothing (1Thess.4:11-12).
Abraham worked and earned his place in destiny as a rich and blessed husband (Gen.13:2, Gen.24:1). Job was a worker and became one of the richest in his time (Job 1:1-3). Isaac, the husband of Rebekah worked and became so rich that an entire nation envied him (Gen.26:1-13).
Wake up, husbandman! Wake up! Get out of your comfort zone. Take a step of faith and do something legitimate with your mind and hands. Do not be ashamed to work. There is dignity and honour in work. Work is one of the virtues of the good and godly husbandman. God worked and is still working. Jesus Christ worked and He is still working. The Person of the Holy Spirit worked and He is still working. You are made in the image and likeness of God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Gen.1:26-28). Wake up and work with your mind and hands so that you can have something to give to yourself, your wife, children and those around you! That is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.
