MOSES TENDED THE FLOCK

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Ex.1:1-2, Lk.18:1, 1Pet.5:3, Is.40:11, Lk.2:8, Deut.28:1, Eph.5:25-28, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, 1Pet.3:7-9, Ps.23:1, Mk.9:29, Num.11:1, Deut.6:4-10

One day MOSES WAS TENDING THE FLOCK of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. HE LED THE FLOCK far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God. (Ex.3:1) NLT

Note the underlined words in the Scripture in Exodus chapter 1 and verse 1. This Scripture gives a graphic example of the expectation of the good and godly husbandman, who is also the shepherd.

Moses was a shepherd. He tended the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro. He was not only faithful to his assignment as the shepherd, he also cultivated the sheep. This is the life God expects from you.

As the husbandman, God wants you to intentionally invest in and cultivate your wife and children in order to bring out the best from them. These verses of Scripture will help your understanding of your role as the good shepherd in their lives.

To your wife, this is the Word of God for you. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church (Eph.5:28-29).

To your children, this is the Word of God for you. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4).

God wants you to lead, nurture and admonish your wife and children until they become all that He has purposed for them. God wants you to feed them with the knowledge of His word that will help them grow up spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically and relationally. God has ordained success for your wife and children in all that they do but you must partner with Him and provide the right platform at home and in your relationship with them.

So, what must I do to tend my wife and children the same way Moses, the son-in-law, did?

Firstly, you must be faithful to God, your wife and children and to the whole commandments of the office of the husbandman. As the husbandman and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, there is the need to walk in total obedience to what God has commanded (Deut.28:1). The Bible says, if thou will be willing and obedient, thou shall eat the good of the land (Is.1:19).

The second practical step you must take is to develop a life of prayer and intercession. Satan hates the truth that you are in charge of your family fold. He fought the first family in Genesis chapter 3 and he is still fighting today.  He will try to cause confusion between you and your wife and children and set up invincible walls, distractions and barriers. But the only way you can defeat him and all his works is through the weapon of prayer. In Luke chapter 18 verse 1, the Bible says this. Men ought to always pray and not faint (Lk.18:1). And in Mark chapter 9 and verse 29, Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says this. And he said unto them, this kind can come forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29).

Another weapon is praise and thanksgiving. You must stop complaining and murmuring about your wife and children. Rather, you must be thankful to God for giving you a wife and making you a father. It is on the platform of thanksgiving that God reveals to you what to do to win the heart, soul and body of your wife and children. And when the people complained, it displeased the Lord….(Num.11:1).

God wants you to tend your wife and children and He wants you to do your job as the shepherd excellently, bringing glory and praise unto His name.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of complaining and murmuring about my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of grace and supplication to intercede for my wife and children as the husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be faithful to You, my wife, children and the demands of the husbandman as contained in the Bible.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am made in the image and likeness of God and I have the Spirit of Christ in me and this is making me to tend my wife and children in the way and admonition of the Lord because that is what makes me the good and godly shepherd in Jesus name. Amen.
