Bible Texts: 1Tim.3:4-5, Gen.17:1-3, 1Tim.5:8, Gen.18:19, Eph.5:25, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, 2Cor.5:17, Ps.119:11, Pro.19:23, Is.61:9, Deut.6:7
God has called the husbandman to provide leadership, that is why he is called the head, just like Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, is called the Head of the Church. But where does the manifestation of the leadership of the husbandman start from and how does he set his leadership priorities?
These questions are very important because the answers provide guidance to how you and I can improve ourselves as the good and godly husbandmen.
Consider these verses of Scriptures in answering the questions.
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment, that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Gen.18:19).
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1Tim.5:8)
For if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God? (1Tim.3:5)
From the above Bible passages, the answer to the questions is that leadership of the husbandman starts at home. Your show of love starts at home. Your financial, material and physical provision starts at home. The Christ-like virtues of patience, kindness, forgiveness, compassion, sacrifice, goodwill, truthfulness, faithfulness, purity and encouragement start at home. If all your godliness and goodness as the husbandman do not start at home but outside, you’ve got your leadership priorities wrong.
So, how best do I set my priorities so that my good and godly leadership starts at home?
Firstly, you must give importance to your relationship with God through Jesus Christ. This means you must walk in the fear of God, recognizing that He is your head. Whatever you want to do or say must be tested on the basis of God’s words (2Cor.5:17, Ps.119:11, Pro.19:23)
Secondly, you must give attention to your relationship with your wife because she is heirs together with you of the grace of life (1Pet.3:7, Col.3:19, Eph.5:25). Your wife is your first and most important responsibility and you must relate well with her according to knowledge and in the love of Christ.
Thirdly, you must prioritize your relationship with your children because they are from your loins and they are the seed that the Lord has blessed (Is.61:9, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:7). You owe your children the responsibility to be their first teacher, mentor and cheerleader. They are your first team that you must nurture in the way and admonition of the Lord.
Therefore, reset your priorities and let your good and godly leadership roles start at home and you will enjoy the honour and reward as the husbandman from God.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for misplaced priorities as the husbandman.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to reset my priorities as I lead my life and household.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to lead at home as You would and make me bear fruits.
FAITH CONFESSION
I reset my priorities according to the instructions and commandments of God and I give it first place from the home front because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
