THE LAW OF THE HUSBANDMAN-CHAPTER 5

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Eph.5:25-29, Eph.6:4, Col.3:19, Deut.6:7, 1Tim.3:2,4, Matt.5:14-16, Is.61:9, 2Tim.2:6, 1Cor.13:4-8, 1Tim.5:8

Chapter 5!

In the past four days, the Person of the Holy Spirit has helped us to understand the content of the law of the husbandman. Today is chapter 5 and the number 5 represents grace. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that grace to obey the demands of all the chapters of the law of the husbandman be given to you to the end that you become the good and godly husbandman. Amen.

The fifth chapter of the law of the husbandman has two sub-sections. The first subsection relates to the husbandman relationship with his wife and the second subsection is his relationship with his children.

Subsection 1

Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church (Eph.5:25-29).

The law commands you to love your wife not as the world loves but as Christ loves. And how did Christ love the church? He loves the church sacrificially. He gives His best, forgives easily, doesn’t keep records of wrongs, always willing to help and support, provides and protects, always patient and kind and always putting the interests of the church in front of Him (1Cor.13:4-8)

Subsection 2

And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4).

This section is very clear on who is responsible to train and nurture the children in the way of the Lord and not the ways of the world because it is the way of the Lord that makes your children to be the seeds that the Lord has blessed (Is.61:9). It says fathers and not mothers. So, you are breaking the law when you handover the responsibility of training, mentoring, guiding and nurturing your children to your wife, pastors or teachers.

Why are these sections important to the husbandman?

It is a proof that you are fulfilling the calling of the ministry of the husbandman God has committed to your hands. It makes you an example of what Jesus Christ would have done if He were physically here on earth to lead your wife and children (Matt.5:14-16). Finally, you become the first partaker of the blessings that come from your good wife and blessed children (2Tim.2:6)

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to love my wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to train and nurture my children in the ways and admonition of the Lord.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to keep obeying all the laws of the husbandman, diligently and delightfully.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take delight in obeying all the laws of the husbandman and I receive help from God to keep doing all that the law commands me to do because I want to become the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
