Then said he unto him, a certain man made a great supper and bade many, and he sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden (invited), come, for all things are now ready Lk.14:16-17).
The above Scripture was about Jesus Christ, telling a parable of a certain man who gave an open invitation to everybody to come to supper because all things were ready. Everything that those invited would need was available and everyone who came to the dinner was satisfied.
The Person of the Holy Spirit is asking you these questions. Are all things ready for your wife and children? Can they come to you and be satisfied? If you invite your wife and children to come to you, would they come? Do you have what it takes to be like that certain man in our Bible passage today who invited people and assured them that all things are ready? These are questions that you must ask yourself and be challenged by them if you want to grow your capacity as the good and godly husbandman to your wife and children.
The word of God says this about Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman.
Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest (Matt.11:28).
Just like Jesus Christ, you are a trans-generational agent of blessing (Gen.12:1-3). You are in the lives of your wife and children to lift their burdens, motivate and cheer them up and encourage them to become all that God has planned for them to be. Every invitation you extend to your wife and children is an invitation to goodwill. This is why you have a mandate to operate an open door policy towards them, after the order of Jesus Christ, who did not condemn but came to save, heal, deliver, inspire, empower and motivate the people unto good works and righteousness, while on earth.
However, you cannot invite your wife and children to a great supper until you have prepared one. What this means is that you have to feed yourself with the knowledge of the person and spirit of Jesus Christ as the Head of the Church. And your life must be so transformed that everyone will see Jesus through you (Matt.5:14-16). It is after you have the knowledge of God’s word in you and living the word as the man, husband and father that you can invite them to supper. This is what makes you ready to prepare the banquet where your wife and children can be satisfied. Otherwise when they come they will not be satisfied because you do not have anything to offer. You cannot give what you don’t have.
Do you want your wife and children to come to the dinner of respect and diligence? Then demonstrate that you have respect for them and for others and that you are diligent. Do you want them to come to dinner with you and enjoy a righteous walk? Then you must live out your right standing with God that they can see and testify of. Do you want them to come to dinner and partake of the love for God and good conscience? Then you must be a passionate lover of God and His works on the earth and have a good conscience towards all men. You must first of all become all that you want your wife and children to come and partake of at the banquet (Matt.5:13-15).
Are you ready to prepare the banquet and invite your wife and children to come and be assured that they will be filled and satisfied?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to deliver on my covenant demands as the good and godly husbandman.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every form of irresponsibility.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to walk in the fullness of Your perfect will for my life as the man, husband and father.
FAITH CONFESSION
I reflect the life of Jesus Christ in all that I think, say or do so that my life will make the necessary impact on my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
