SITTETH AT MEAT OR SERVETH?

As the good and godly husbandman, there is only one position you can take as you lead your wife and children. Your relationship with them can only be summed up in one word-service. And that is what Jesus, your perfect example, says in Luke Gospel chapter 22.

But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For who is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as HE THAT SERVETH (Lk.22:26-27).

Are you sitting at meat as a boss in your relationships with your wife and children or you are among them as one who serves?

A lot of husbandmen claim they are the heads but refuse to accept the responsibilities that the office of the husbandman commands and demands.  Many more husbandmen are wallowing in ignorance (Hos.4:6). And some others are plain stubborn. However, as the good and godly husbandman, you must appreciate that being the husbandman is a ministry. It is a call to serve the best interest of your wife and children in all aspects of your relationships with them.

The office of the husbandman is both a privilege and a call to higher service. And both must be embraced faithfully and wholeheartedly.

Let us consider the first understanding you must have as the good and godly husbandman.

It is not of him that willeth but of God which showeth mercy (Rom.9:16).

And

The race is not to the swift nor the battle to the very strong (Ecc.9:11)

To be the husbandman is a privilege given to you by God, and you do not take it for granted. Rather, you must cherish it. You are a three-in-one personality which not every male-man has. You are the man, husband and father all at the same time. It is a rare opportunity God has given to you to demonstrate the nature and character of Jesus Christ as you serve your wife and children. The office of the husbandman is the best platform for the display of good and godly leadership. It is a position of trust. Your wife and children are looking up to you for guidance, direction and inspiration. Maximize your relationship and leadership position with them. You must not disappoint God.

The second truth about the office of the husbandman you occupy is that it is a ministry. God has called you to serve the best interest of your wife and children. Being the husbandman is to minister to the spiritual, physical, emotional, material and mental needs of your wife and children. And this will require a lot of sacrifices from you. On a daily basis you put them in front of you as your most important priority and work towards living the life of the man, husband and father as God commands (Eph.5:25-29, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.5:8, Deut.6:7, 1Pet.3:7, Gal.4:19, Gen.18:19).

When you uphold the office of the husbandman with respect and you know what God commands you to do as the man, husband and father and you obey and act on the commandments with joy, then you are fit to be called a christ, one who is among them to serve. That is what makes you fit to be called the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXRCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with a new zeal to uphold my office with a servant mentality.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me not to disappoint the confidence You have in me.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to make the most of headship as the husbandman.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am grateful to God for making me the husbandman and by this privilege, I embrace the responsibilities that come with the ministry to serve the best interest of my wife and children in all aspects of my relationships with them because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
