Bible Texts: Matt.20:26-29, Rom.8:17, Jn.10:15, 1Cor.2:16, 2Cor.5:20, Jn.3:16, Gal.4:19, Eph.5:25, Jn.3:30, Gen.22:18, Jn.10:1-2
But it shall not be so among you but whosoever will be great among you, let him be you minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant. Even so as the Son of man came not be ministered unto, BUT TO MINISTER, AND TO GIVE HIS LIFE A RANSOM FOR MANY (Matt.20:26-28)
The Scripture in Matthew chapter 20 and verse 26 tells us how Jesus Christ gave His life as a ransom for many. He paid the price so others can be free and be established. God was not happy with the way man lived-a life of depravation, failure, and emptiness. He knew that the only way to rescue humanity is to send His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to the world. Jesus Christ left His comfort zone to earth, and when He came, He told the people His assignment. He said, “even so the Son of man came to minister and to give his life a ransom”.
As the husbandman, you are a joint heir with Jesus Christ (Rom.8:17). You have the mind of Christ (1Cor.2:16). God expects you to be an ambassador of Christ as you lead your wife and children (2Cor.5:20). God wants you to minister to them and give your life as a ransom for their sakes (Jn.10:15). God wants you to be interested in their spiritual, mental, physical and emotional well-being. God wants you to break through the barriers, challenges and limitations of life and be an extension of His love to them (Gen.22:18). God wants you to act like the good shepherd would act to his sheep (Jn.10:1-2). God wants you to put your life on the line for them.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son…. (Jn.3:16)
For example, if the meal before you is the last one available and your wife and children have not eaten, give it to them to eat. Stand in the gap in prayers for your wife and children and pray for them, even when you seem tired. If you have only one car and you have to give it to your wife to make movement convenient for her and the children while you walk, please do. Give and give your best to your wife and children because that is the nature of Christ and you are a Christ.
You must understand that as the husbandman, so much more is expected of you from God and from your wife and children. The day you take over the mantle of leadership, you have entered into a covenant with God to do as Christ has done to the church (bride). You are now a minister, ministering to your wife and children. It is call to a higher commitment and responsibility.
But what do I benefit for being a ransom for my wife and children and ministering to them in the love of Christ?
You gain their loyalty and followership.
And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him (Matt.20:29)
Your wife and children are not blind. They see and know if you are a sacrificial leader or not. So, if you lay down your life and become a ransom for them they will follow you and your instructions; you become their role model and they will sing your praises to all.
God has called you to serve His interest in the lives of your wife and children. Make it possible through you.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to be a committed minister and a worthy ransom for my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not be weary of living a sacrificial life for the sakes of my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help my wife and children to appreciate my sacrifices and let them respond positively.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give up my convenience as a ransom for my wife and children and I serve their best interests in all areas of life because that is what makes me a worthy minister as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
