KEEP A COOL HEAD, STAY ALERT!

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Peter 5:8-9, Jn.10:10, Ezk.34:15, Zech.13:7, Mk.6:34, Matt.5:14-16, Gen.1:26-28

Today’s teaching topic is derived from the Bible passage in 1st Peter chapter 5 and verses 8 and 9. It is the Message translation. It is direct and straightforward.

Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up (1 Pet.5:8) MSG

Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil as a roaring lion, walking about, seeking whom he may devour (1Pet.5:8) KJV

As the good and godly shepherd, you must be vigilant and keep watch over your life and the lives of your wife, children and home. Satan, sin and the world are working tirelessly to destroy families and homes through deceitfulness and falsehood.

For the records, you must understand that your life as the good and godly shepherd is and will continue to be a threat to satan, sin and the world. The devil is the one who is looking for ways to make you slip into drunkenness, adultery, bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, malice, and all forms of spiritual complacency, ungodliness and immorality. It is not because you are poor neither rich that you are living a life of unrighteousness. The attitude of your wife or your children is not also the reason for your fall into adultery and unwholesome living that has not brought glory to God. It is spiritual carelessness on your part that has led you to do those things that displease God. You must awake and be alert.

You must realize that when you fall into unrighteousness and sin, satan is happy. He is even happier when your fall leads to the scattering of your wife, children and sheepfold. Jesus speaking said, they are like sheep without shepherd (Mk.6:34). The word of God also says that, when you strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter (Zech.13:7).Satan is your enemy and the assignment he wants to fulfill if you let down your guard as the good shepherd is three-fold-to kill, to steal and to destroy your life, your relationship with your wife, children and your home (Jn.10:10).

As the good and godly husbandman, you recognize that the devil, who is determined to make you worthless as the man, husband and father, will not come in human form. He will come through the things you read, hear and watch. You must appreciate that you are created in the image and likeness of God (Gen.1:26-28). So, just like satan took the first husbandman off guard, he also wants to pounce on you and mess your glorious destiny up, if you are not on your guard (Gen.3:1-10). This is the more reason why you must continue to be.

But how do I stay on guard and not allow a slip?

Whom ye resist steadfast in faith (2Pet.5:9a)

You must live like a resistance army. A resistance army always looks beyond the surface and is battle ready. He is constantly on the watch and vigilant. He does not surrender, he does not give in. He fights until he wins. You must resist satan, sin the world steadfastly in watchfulness, prayers and determined commitment to make your life and your walk with God and your relationship with your wife and children worthy.

Be watchful! Resist satan, sin and the influences of the world, steadfastly. Contend against them all on sides.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

Father, in the Name of Jesus, open the eyes of my spirit to see beyond every offer and suggestion.

Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of discernment.

Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of faith to stand against satan, sin and the influences of the world.

FAITH CONFESSION

I resist steadfastly satan, sin and the offers of the world on my knees through the power in the word of God and by faith because that is what empowers me to remain victorious as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
