Bible Texts: 1Thess.5:20-22, Pro.5:8, Pro.7:7, 2Cor.7:1, 2Cor.5:17, Ps.24:1-3, Ps.1:13, Matt.5:6, Heb.4:13, Rom.8:1
Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying. Prove all things, hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil (1Thess.5:20-22)
The times we are in are perilous time. The love of many for God and the things of God are going down day by day. Righteousness and walking in the fear of God no longer appeal to man anymore. To man, God is like an ATM. He goes to God, gets what he wants, and continues in sin. Iniquity has become acceptable as a norm. The light of truth and holiness is no longer shining before men. This is why there is a clarion call from God on you and I to arise and live a godly life. God is calling on you and I to make a firm commitment to abstain from all appearance of evil because the destinies of our wife and children hang on what we do or refuse to do.
Consider the following Scriptural truth about walking in righteousness and in the fear of God.
Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, not sits in the seat of the scornful nor stands in the way of sinners (Ps.1:1-2).
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the God (2Cor.7:1)
As the good and godly husbandman, you must fight to retain and sustain the dignity of your office by walking in the fear of God. This is because there are several things that are calling for your attention-the internet, television, newspapers, radio programmes and even your friends. These deviations, if not carefully assessed to be sure they help you grow into becoming the good and godly husbandman, can take you away from your God, wife and children.
But how do I abstain from all appearances of evil?
You abstain from all appearances of evil through the knowledge of God’s word. The Scripture has this to say. Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee. When you study the word of God and meditate on it, you know what pleases God and what He doesn’t want you to get involved in. The more of God’s word that you know and store in your heart, the more you become empowered to know the perfect will of God for you as the man, husband and father (Jn.5:39).
You also abstain from all appearances of evil by the power of the Person of the Holy Spirit. He will teach you all things and guide you into all truth (Jn.14:26). The Person of the Holy Spirit can help you do two things, amongst others. He empowers you to do the will of God and teaches you where to go and how to go and guides you out of unhealthy relationships. But you must invite Him into your life and be willing to do His bidding. Finally, you must engage the weapon of the blood of Jesus Christ by pleading the power of Jesus Christ over your spirit, soul and body, while you continue to examine your ways against the word of God (Rev.12:11, Philp.2:13, 2Cor.13:5, Hag.1:7).
Your life and that of your wife and children are precious in the sight of God. Walk in righteousness, holiness and in the fear of God.
