TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH MORE IS REQUIRED

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Lk.12:48, Gen.8:22, Philp.2:13, Jn.15:5, Rom.5:5, Jn.13:1-5, Matt.20:28, Gal.6:7, Matt.5:14-16, Ps.19:14, Matt.24:13, 1Tim.5:8

But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required, and to whom men have committed much of him they will ask the more (Lk.12:48)

This past Sunday in church, the Pastor was teaching and made reference to the above passage (Lk.12:48) in the Bible which forms the subject of today’s teaching. Almost immediately, my eyes stayed on that Scripture for a moment and the Person of the Holy Spirit began to teach me about the relationship between expectation and responsibility.

As the husbandman, much has been given to you by God. He has given you authority and blessed you with the power of leadership. God has, by spiritual structure made you the head of your wife and children. And this confers on you expectations which you want to see from your wife and children. As the head, you want them to honour and respect you. You want them to submit to you and obey all your instructions. You also want them to be faithful, loyal and honest to you in all things. These and many more are your expectations that you want your wife and children to extend to you, and you are not wrong demanding for it. But it comes with responsibilities on your part.

Just as the office of the husbandman attracts expectation from his wife and children, it also comes with so much responsibility from you to them. If you want them to respect and honour, you must first demonstrate and truly respect and honour them. If you want them to be loyal, faithful and committed to you, you must first be faithful and honest with them. If you want them to give you the value and recognition that comes with your office, you must be the provider and sustainer to them.

You must understand that being the husbandman is not a trophy nor is it a title. It is an assignment that God has committed to your hands which comes with greater responsibilities you must be doing. And it is in your doing the work as the man, husband and father, as provided for in the Bible that you can be called the good and godly husbandman.

Don’t try to remind or explain your office as the husbandman to your wife, children and those around you. Don’t give little and expect much. Let your conduct speak loudest because to whom much is given so much more is required.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being an irresponsible and uncommitted husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to appreciate and accept the truth that my office comes with greater responsibilities.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do all that You command me to do as the man, husband and father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am the leader in my home and I accept and execute the responsibilities which come with my headship faithfully, truthfully and delightfully because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
