Bible Texts: Matt.5:23-24, Rom.12:18, Heb.12:11, Jas.3:17, Col.1:19-20, 2Cor.5:19, Pro.21:1-3, Jn.14:26, 1Pet.3:7, Ecc.4:12, Matt.18:19, Rom.14:17
I hear the sound of hatred, bitterness and unforgiveness in the sheepfold of many husbandmen and between them and their wife and children. And this ungodly sound has begun to affect negatively the spiritual, mental and emotional health and relationship between the husbandman and his wife and children. While satan is happy because his mandate is to kill, steal and destroy, God wants you to reconcile with them. God wants you to seek and pursue peace with them.
Therefore, if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee, leave there thy gift before the altar and go thy way, first be reconciled to thy brother and them come an offer thy gift (Matt.5:23-24)
As the husbandman, it is the perfect will of God for you to make peace with your wife and children. God doesn’t just want you to live in peace with them; He wants to you to make peace with them. It is true that there are times when they may offend you. It could also be that you are not the person at fault. But Jesus, the perfect portrait of the good and godly husbandman, gives you and I an example to follow. He says “go first and reconciled”. So, Jesus Christ believes in reconciliation because that is what leads to peace.
For you to be reconciled with your wife and children and seek peace, you must be deliberate. It means you must be the first person to extend hands of reconciliation. You do not wait for them; you walk to them with a heart filled with the love of Christ (Rom.5:5). This demands that you may be the first person to greet them. You may also be the first person to say, “I am sorry”. You may be the first person to call for a peace meeting. All these attempts by you to make peace do not make you a weak husbandman. It only makes you an ambassador of Christ (Col.1:19-20, 2Cor.5:19-20).
But how do I make my peace move a success?
You learn to pray ahead!
I travailed in prayers that Christ be formed in you (Gal.4:19)
Because your wife and children are spiritual being, you must first learn to address their spiritual lives and this you can do by the force of prayers. Remember that the heart of the king is in the hands of the Lord and He turns it in the direction that pleases Him (Pro.21:1-3). Because it is the will of God for you to be reconciled with your wife and children, He will answer your prayer for their hearts to receive your peace moves.
You must also seek divine wisdom.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him (Jas.1:5)
You need the wisdom of God for you to know how to seek reconciliation and pursue peace with them. The wisdom of God helps you to know the what, the how and the when (Jn.14:26). A lot of the times, the right things may be communicated the wrong ways and even at the wrong time. But with divine wisdom, you are able to do what is required at the right time and right ways.
What are the benefits when I seek reconciliation and peace with my wife and children?
Your prayers are not hindered (1Pet.3:7). Secondly, it brings you honour from your wife and children and outsiders. Thirdly, it showcases you as example of Christ (Matt.5:14-16, Acts 1:1). Fourthly, it gives assurance of eternal life (1Jn.5:17). And finally, it brings progress in your endeavours, stability in your spiritual walk with God and joy in the Holy Ghost (Matt.18:19, Ecc.4:12, Rom.14:17)
Seek peace and pursue it. It is the hallmark of the good and godly husbandman.
